Ringworm! HELP!
So my dog Kia has ringworm, and we know it's contagious, but I am really scared of catching it
She is going to the vets tommorow, but until then I don't know what to do so I have a few questions:
1.Does it hurt if you catch it?
2.Has anybody here had it?
3.Anyways to prevent it?
4.Could the hams catch it?
Tonight we are spending the night at my grandma's house, because my dog has been on our beds >.>
Thanks

Re: Ringworm! HELP!
I've had ringworm. It's like dry skin and mine didn't hurt but was itchy. I was given a medicated lotion or such for it and it went away in a few weeks. I was covered in it e.e
I don't know if its catchy though..

Re: Ringworm! HELP!
I caught Ringworm from my Dwarf Hamster Mandy. When she was with me passed now, she used to bite my arms & that's where the ringworm was. She never actually had ringworm herself she was a carrier of ringworm
Ringworm is not a actual worm it is a fungal infection related to athlete's foot.
1, No ring worm does not hurt/or itch
2, Yes Me!
3, Was, Wash & wash again if you have come into contact with anything the dog has touched washing kills the fungus
4, Yes hams can have actual ringworm & they can be a carrier of ring worm but not actually have ringworm them self
I made a appointment with my GP & he gave me some cream to put on it three times a day. In 4 day's it was gone.
You will be wise to keep your dog away from beds, your laps & near the hams. Wash your hands if you touch the dog or touch anything the dog has touched.

Re: Ringworm! HELP!
I caught ringworm from one of my mice a few years ago and my GP just gave me cream to apply to the rash (which appeared on my upper wrist only). It took a good month for it to go but it did.
I would advise strict hygeine before handling your other pets just incase. Your vet will give medication for your dog probably in the form of an anti-fungal shampoo and perhaps cream. Hope everything goes okay. x

Re: Ringworm! HELP!
I've had ringworm, it doesn't hurt at all, I don't know what others think, but I got cream for it and honestly barely noticed it. As the others said, wash wash wash and be cautious with your other pets

Re: Ringworm! HELP!
Cats can catch ringworm yes, so keep the cat away from the dog & wash your hands before touching the cat or hams

Re: Ringworm! HELP!
Ringworm can be transferred from dogs to people (and other animals) so don't pet or cuddle the dog, or allow the cat near her, until its been treated. Like Silver said, ringworm is actually a fungus, not a worm, so it can jump from host to host easily, where as worms need species specific hosts to survive.
Ringworm mostly affects the skin, which means an annoying looking rash and sometimes hair loss, depending on where the affected area is. It likes moist, warm, and dark areas (like any fungus), so watch out for it to appear in those types of areas on the body. A topical cream is often prescribed for people and a special bathing solution is given to the affected animal.
Usually, the ringworm will clear up in a week or two, but sometimes it last a little longer.

Re: Ringworm! HELP!
I'd let the vet know you have a cat too. It should be checked for ringworm also. They've been living together and who knows when it actually began?

Re: Ringworm! HELP!
It began to SHOW 2 or 3 days ago and at that time we thought it was a cut, as she fell on a curb but we posted a picture online and a woman said it was ringworm and unfortuantely the symptoms add up, we will let the vets know we have a cat, but it will be hard keeping them apart.
But the funny thing is we always say to our dog now ''Hey Kia, you are a fun-guy(fungi) hehe!
