Smile Zach's new companion hopefully

So today i went and got a new gerbil to introduce to zach unfortunately he is older than 10 weeks so it will be a bit of a challenge but really hoping it works out. So far so good no signs of aggression from either, the new gerbil who currently doesn't have a name (waiting for OH to get back from work so we can name him) is very laid back and doesn't seem bothered by anything just went straight to sleep as soon as i put him in the tank. Zach is a bit more curious trying to get through the mesh barrier and has been stomping his feet a little but calmed down now. So fingers crossed it works
And here are some pics of the new little guy i believe he is a white bellied cream? Not sure maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong

Aw, he`s lovely kirsty, well done. Zach is just a bit unsure so he`s drumming his dominance in protest! The mesh divide should stay in place for as long as it takes. It will be worth it. Taking the divider away too early could result in negitive behaviour, so rotate the boys into one anothers space to allow them to sniff around and learn to like each other.

He looks very much like the little lad I brought in at around the same age as a companion for my adult male and I decided to call him Munchie! Same colour too!

Yeah i'm going to leave the divider in for a few weeks and keep switching them over each day till I see some positive signs that they are getting used to each other. Ruben is sleeping right next to the divider and seems to want to get close to zach, zach on the other hand is being a little stubborn lol but early days yet. I'm going to be nervous when it comes to finally removing the divider but will be on stand by with a thick pair of gloves just incase any fighting does happen but fingers crossed it goes well

Sounds good to me kirsty. If after a few weeks when the divider is removed to see how they get on without it, if Zach does go on the defensive, just slowly put the divider back again and leave them to settle again. Sometimes they just get on, sometimes it can take a while, but even with the divider in place, it means both the boys have company, which is better than no company!

If on the other hand they never get on, you could always look at a longer tank to divide for them to allow each gerbil more space? Hopefully that won`t be required though.
