Smile my betta tank

someone asked for some pics of my tank, I think it was Charley? but I kept forgetting to do a thread for it! anyway here it is.

35 litres with a male halfmoon salamander dragon betta called Draco Malfoy. named as such because he thinks he's all hard when he bullies the red cherry shrimp, but as soon as I move a little too fast, he is a little wuss haha. I have a small colony of red cherries but they don't like coming out because Draco is a bully lol. I've also recently got an otocinclus to help deal with the algae (my tank's by the window). I know they are supposed to be shoaling fish but there was only one left at the aquatic centre so when they have more stock in, I'll be getting three friends for him. no pictures of him at the moment as he's in quarantine! oh and ignore the condition of Draco's tail - he's a horrible self-nipper and just when it starts healing again, he goes and nips himself some more when I'm not looking. sigh.

Yes it was me and wow I love it! He is a stunning fish although they always look so grumpy to me. We used to have one called Red and he always looked miserable I think it's because they have sad looking mouths. Oh, I also love the little plants at the very front of the tank (tiny green ones). They look like little shoots growing from the ground.

I always thought that male betta fish had to live alone due to fighting (other male bettas), or had to be introduced into the tank after there is an established community as to stop him picking on them. I may be completely wrong mind you!

Charley - haha yeah bettas have such grumpy faces, I love them. the front plants are little dwarf four leaf clovers, they've started running amok! when I first planted them, they were only in the right corner...

yes male bettas are best off alone, although there are some species that they can co-habit with - it generally depends on the specific betta! with things like otos and corys, since they're bottom-dwellers and aren't aggressive, the betta generally ignores them, although some can be awfully aggressive and chase them around, in which case you'd need to separate them. I also thought they were only okay if you added them to an existing community, but I looked into it and apparently it doesn't really matter who goes in first, they can get territorial anyway! so it's sort of just pot luck and see if they'd get on or, at the very least, ignore each other lol. but male bettas definitely can't be with other bettas, male or female!

Silver - thank you my tank is an Arcadia Arc, which I got from Charterhouse Aquatics for £49.95 brand new, delivered! comes with a small internal filter and the Arc pod lamp, though I've since replaced the filter with a hang on back one (more space for lpanting heh) and I've switched over the lamp to an LED one (currently have the Arc pod lamp on as well as I'm going through some bizarre plant die off though).
