If you'd like, Lucinda. I can tell you how to help your friends and explain about Game Addiction in better terms. I find that gamers tend to ignore that there is actually an issue. However I'm working hard on getting more attention on the addiction.

Give him his own hamster - men like agouti hamsters (with stripes) and patterns. It will soon win them over

sorry for the delay my moms down visiting so i haven`t had much time to be online. i like games enough but not to the point where that is all i want to do. i can just play games for hours but only because my husband and when we had one roommate were only interested in playing games so that is what we did and it was either that or be alone doing stuff alone ll the time which gets lonely quickly. roommates definitely addicted and hubby prob is too. i base this on all he asked for for christmas was more games.... now i play some. but mostly work and clean and then play with pets and garden a bit read a lot... stuff like that. i don`t feel the need to constantly be playing games and don`t really understand it. i played a lot more when i didn`t work and hubby did because mmos are with other people and i don`t like being alone a ton. he`ll go out and get shopping done and that sort of thing with me but as far as plants or animals go he just won`t. all of his friends are gamers so i`m sure that doesn`t help. been trying to get him to do other stuff for years we spend a lot less time playing games now but its still an awful lot.

If you'd like I can send you part of the article I'm working on right now. Work want me to write up on gaming addiction as I'm the only one on the crew who has had it. Personally, I'd smack him round the head and tell him to stop taking me for granted. I took my fiancé for granted and I got so bad when he tried to take my consoles from me I threatened to break up with him and never talk to him again. -.-

Junkies push junk. If your friends are gamers you're going to game more and more. How long does he play games for in a single session anyway?

My OH doesn't particularly get on my my hammies but the last one I go as a foster-Vanilla, he liked her the most and then he was like "Can we not just keep her and get rid of Kaiji" I told him we couldn't get rid of Kaiji but we can keep Vanilla He likes her because she is sociable but Kaiji is badly behaved, he doesnt come out of his house at all until he knows we are all gone and it is pitch black and bites when he is taken out (I try to handle him to get used to me but I get a lot of painful bites, also I need to take him out to give im health checks...im paranoid that I wouldn't even know if anything was wrong with him). I also have a robo that doesn't like being held and it stresses her out too much so he thinks she is pointless too. He says he is indifferent about the rats. I think he'd like them if they didnt smell as much but being young males I think they are bound to smell. I've been told not to clean them out more often than once a week though as apparently they'll scent mark more which I was originally doing at the beginning.

hard to tell nowadays because we`ve been on opposite work schedules so he has been on while i`m at work for the most part. tabletop rpgs ..... anywhere for 3-6 hours. boardgames 4-5 hours if people r willing possibly longer but those are averages. mmos.... when we were with roommate easily 12 hours or longer on days he was off. consoles usually 2 or so. i have 145 days of play logged into the mmo we played and thats with a 6 month break from playing and maybe another 6 of not being ble to play. so 145 days of play time logged in 2 years. on top of the rpgs and other games. yep. ....

That sounds like a real addiction. And tbh it seems like it'd be cut down by helping your roommate with his addiction as well.

we don`t live with the roommate anymore moved out on our own. he doesn`t play as much but i think its mostly because of work. he will however spend all his money on tech and games. mostly just trying to work on bringing hubby back to the real world.

That would be brilliant, if you've got the time. One friend in particular helped me overcome an alcohol addiction so I'd like to be able to help them however I can, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there :s

On the original topic (can't help with gaming addictions), my other half was initially interested in my hams, and although he doesn't DISLIKE them, he thinks I had too many, he would watch them for me, and sometimes get them out of the playpen and hold them if I had to make a mid-playtime toilet trip. But for the most part, he's no longer actively interested.

I found that I caused this because I got too many hamsters, and he felt it was excessive. However I still get upset with him for not loving them the way that I do, (although he was upset + misses Sandy and Alfie).

So I know how you feel about the 'uninterested' thing, I know he sounds more interested than your OH, but given that the hamsters originally lived with him, it's quite a big change.
I hope you reduce the gaming thing
