Favourite Wheel
Hi there
I have a trixie wheel which has started banging on the stand so I was thinking of getting a new wheel. I have a big ham so it needs to be a large one.
Has anyone got a favourite that they have had for a while?
Thanks!

Re: Favourite Wheel
My favourite has to be the Silent runner, really quiet & well made, expensive but worth it, some of mine have been used by two or three hams now, I’m not sure if they’re in stock anywhere at the moment though.

Re: Favourite Wheel
I agree 100% with Cypher, the silent runner. Had both the 9 inch and 12 inch for a couple of years, still like new.

Re: Favourite Wheel
I actually have a Trixie solid wooden wheel - or something very similar? (28cm diameter) and it has been holding up amazing. It has gone through 3 syrians and it is still in a good state. it has gotten a bit louder over time, but it still doesn't make all that much noise.

Re: Favourite Wheel
I also like the trixie wooden wheel 28cm from zooplus. It is so nice and quiet.
Worth plasticoting it to prevent wee ruining it as it does not do very well being washed.

Re: Favourite Wheel
Not enough experience to say what I prefer, but I can at least say that I really dislike the Silent Spinner.

Re: Favourite Wheel
If money is no object, my favourite that I have tried would be the Rodipet wheel, because it's really quiet and can go on a height-adjustable stand or on the cage bars. However it's also very expensive. The Trixie wooden wheel is almost as quiet and much cheaper, so that would be my favourite taking into account price. I haven't tried the Silent Runner but they seem really good too.

Re: Favourite Wheel
I really loved the Trixie wheel - so quiet and reasonably priced. But I didn't plastikote the running surface enough and my hamster wee'd on it and that was not a good combination.
The Silent Runner is my second favourite - almost as quiet and washable, but expensive.

Re: Favourite Wheel
I'd say the Silent Runner is the universal ideal wheel. You don't have to coat it, it's enclosed which is especially useful for keeping hamsters from flying off as well as being potentially beneficial for more nervous hamsters, and it is already washable. They also stay silent permanently unlike other wheels on the market and are extremely long lasting.
My second favorite may surprise some people but the Kaytee Comfort Wheel is a great choice on a budget especially if you have to buy your wheel in a pet store in the US or Canada. They may not be the most quiet of wheels, but they have dwarf appropriate and Syrian appropriate sizes to choose from and can be a fairly low cost option. They work decently enough unlike the more expensive Silent Spinner(which I would personally never recommend for a variety of reasons, along with any similar wheel design).

Re: Favourite Wheel
Before you buy a new one try hanging it from the roof upside down with cable ties. Providing it’s on a metal stand. Weight of hamster will move the wheel away from the stand support so it will be quiet again. Can send a photo if my description doesn’t make sense
