Unhappy Attempt to identify hamster species from picture

I just discovered an ad on craigslist selling a hamster in the tiniest enclosure with no substrate and I am possibly going to go rescue buy him before the buyer comes to get him - they said if i come with $30 cash today I can have him.

Perhaps you can tell me what kind of hamster it is because i'm having difficulty. It looks smaller to me, given the tiny cage size.

It looks to be a skinny Syrian poor little mite.
Please take care though and be aware about social distancing in this time of crisis. You must not put yourself or anyone else at risk of Covid 19. Remember vet care and supplies are restricted at this difficult time.

Yikes! What an awful cage and way to keep a hamster. That's a young Syrian hamster. I do very much hope that you will be able to rescue this little hamster. Please let us know how you got on.

Red face Re: Attempt to identify hamster species from picture

Thank you.

He sent a video of it in the lid area, being pet right after a wake up call and it was very tame but clearly a syrian.
On the one hand I don't have a set up for a syrian, I have a set up for a smaller hamster like a robo or a dwarf.
On the other hand it's likely bigger than what he'll get otherwise...

Anyone else in NYC in a position to grab this lovely guy?

I might go get him anyway...

Those cages are really horrible, hope you can rescue this little one, as Ria said that is a young Syrian.

They sold the hamster. I hope to a better caretaker.
