Lambing Live (sort of)
Starting a lambing thread for entertainment Our first lambs were born today - three sets of twins. I don't have a photo yet. Most people have finished lambing - ours are always late due to being high up and northerly, plus the breed lives outdoors (Swaledales). Fingers crossed for good weather - two years ago the weather was very bad and we had a lot of sick lambs warming up in the house. Lambing lasts about two weeks. We're self isolating on the farm but OH still has to look after the sheep. Main issue has been having to disinfect gates in case anyone else has touched them.

Awww I really look forward to seeing the lambs! How sweet! I hope the weather is good and that they are all born free of complications for them and their mums.

Re: Lambing Live (sort of)
Look forward to seeing some photos, I did wonder if things might have caused you any problems with the lambing, we're late around here too & I'm still listening out for the sound of lambs around me!
I remember the cute lambs in the kitchen, hope the weather stays good this year & all goes well.

Thank you. It starts of slowly - goes bonkers in the middle and tails off slowly. Today another pair of lambs born. I was a bit busy today so didn't get any photos - they are coming soon!

Re: Lambing Live (sort of)
Six sets of twins now. Here are some photos from this evening. The Ewes are looking a bit mangy as they're starting to lose their wool - shearing will be early June.

One adventurous lamb has left its Mother and trying to make friends with another sheep and her twins, but the Ewe pushes him away.

Oh please can I join in? No - go back to your Mother

Thrilled to see your first sets of twins. Weather looking good there and hope the warmth helps the lambing go well. Like cypher I remember the lambs in cardboard boxes being nursed in your kitchen. So far so good this year. Love their black faces, it is a striking breed.

Re: Lambing Live (sort of)
It's that one with the black and white face - he seems trouble! Maverick ha ha. They nearly always have all black faces.
Yes weather has been nice. Fingers crossed it continues. You can see the gate has been left open. OH has to either spray the gate or use gloves and then discard them at the moment due to the Coronavirus. Public footpath nearby. Leaving the gate open saved a pair of gloves. They were more interested in the hay than going out of the field though.
