Fitch VS Kaytee
Can anyone who has had experience with both give me a comparison between c&c and fitch? thank you! (I'm considering switching to fitch).

Re: Fitch VS Kaytee
I've used fitch, carefresh, kaytee clean and cosy and aubiose.
Aubiose was great for my hams and helped with the smell especially with my one female Syrian. Downside is it appears I'm potentially allergic to it.
Kaytee is nice and soft, not great odour control, holds tunnels ok but compacts down real quickly. Doesn't stay fluffy and is expensive really.
Carefresh is like kaytee but a tad harder and will hold tunnels well. Better odour control than kaytee and doesn't compact down anywhere near as much as kaytee. Some batches smell chemically or generally nasty.
Fitch is in between kaytee and carefresh. Mix of soft and harder bits. Odour control is good and holds tunnels well. Doesn't compact down as much as kaytee. It doesn't have a chemical smell. I got a 10kg bale today and very pleased with it. No smell, consistent pieces hamsters are burrowing mad after weeks of little bedding as I couldn't get any up until now. I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for paper bedding. So far the best I've found and the rescue I got Lilith from recommend it as they also use it

Re: Fitch VS Kaytee
I use Kaytee but have never tried Fitch so can't make a comparison.
Kaytee white is very soft and fluffy and the natural and camo has a more papery consistency which i prefer. I buy the 85l bags from Porton Aquatics for £17.49 which is not that expensive in my opinion because it goes a long way and expands a lot when you fluff it up.

Re: Fitch VS Kaytee
I've used Fitch for years - its great bedding and good value. I've tried Kaytee and find it is similar - slightly different texture and the Kaytee is slightly softer but I still prefer the Fitch which seems more sort of "normal" - can't explain - the Kaytee texture is different. Kaytee works out more expensive depending how much you need and use. Both Fitch and Kaytee are dust-free. I don't like Carefresh - it's a bit like Fitch but I find it dusty and some hamsters have seemed to be allergic to it. It's also a lot more processed.
Fitch is just recycled food grade paper. I am not sure if Kaytee is paper or cellulose. Carefresh is cellulose (hence a lot more processing). I'm also allergic to hemp bedding.
What I like about Fitch? It's loose in the bag, easy to tip out into a cage and just spread out. Doesn't smell of anything. Hamsters seem to like it. It holds tunnels.

Re: Fitch VS Kaytee
How does a 4kg bag of fitch compare to a 24.6l bag of kaytee in terms of volume? My enclosures are around 550-600 square inches each and the kaytee normally does about 1 and a half changes.

As you have a large enclosure and multiple hamsters I'd ditch the idea of getting a 4kg and get a 10kg. I only remove soiled bits from my cages. I only take it all out and properly sift through it once a month and the majority of the bedding goes back.
I have roughly 2500sq inches of floor space for my hams in total. Out of a 10kg bag I've used 5kg roughly that's filled up approximately 1000sq inches of space at a depth of 4" approx. But that was topping up the cages not starting from scratch. Also depends on how deep you want the bedding and if you use any other substrate. For example all mine have a sand pit and a 2 inch layer of aspen or paper pellets on the bottom.

Re: Fitch VS Kaytee
A 4kg bag isn't very much. I also get the 10kg bag - a third of it fills a 100cm cage (about 833 square inches) if filling the cage from scratch and full to the brim of the base. After that the bag lasts about 6 months or more with spot cleaning and a couple of substrate changes. The 10kg bag is also much better value - its not massively big to store, especially once you've started using it.
