I am sure we all know the awful numbers of casualties in the Uk recently. Yesterday two nurses died - both in their thirties, Mothers with children. It's so important we all follow the lockdown rules and stay at home to prevent it spreading - and to stay safe.

For those who aren't in the Uk, tonight was the second NHS clap (people everywhere clapping for the health workers).

Oh Wow. That is fantastic! It must have taken a lot of work to make. Now I’ve seen how big, bright and clever (and vertical !) it is, I can completely understand why your son was sad nobody else would see it! Now you can tell him Hamster lovers all over the world have seen it

I'm scheduled for the vaccination next week through work and i'm feeling like a guinea pig in a lab but keep telling myself that i'm too old to worry about possible, still unknown long term effects.
Wished i could escape to a very remote Scottish island.

I have a rare syndrome called Ehlers Danlos. You can Google it for more in depth info but in a nutshell it effects the connective tissues mainly. Like tendons and ligaments. Easiest way to think of it. Get a over used elastic band or hairband. Now get 2 pens. Line them up like your knee or elbow joint. Now try and attach the 2 without twisting or doubling up the elastic band. It will remain loose. Only way to tighten it is to make the band shorter. However, with use, it'll stretch out again, becoming loose.

It also effects anything with collagen in it. Now, for those who don't know what collagen is, its what allows bones to be strong without shattering and allows skin to be stretchy. Everything in the body has collagen. Organs, bones blood vessels. Everything. It's almost like my body has too much collagen so I'm very stretchy and flexible but this comes with the prices of extreme pain, dislocations, organ and blood issues....you get the idea.
So far this year I've had bulging discs, sciatica more times I can count, dislocated fingers, wrist, shoulder, elbow, knee and jaw.

Ive got to be very careful what I use on my skin and in my body. Shampoos (all but 2 and one is discontinued now) create lesions on my scalp. Soaps make my skin crack and bleed.

Essentially my body is a mess so I'm wary of what I have. Some swear by udder cream for inflammation. Tried it, had no effect. Paracetamol has very little effect but I use it when I'm desperate. Pregabalin had no effect on pain. Even local anaesthetic I'm tolerant to. Went for a filling and many injections later, I could still feel everything.

So yeh, thanks but no thanks.

Today's lesson on rare syndromes that you didn't ask for was bought to you by me, Engel. Sorry to waffle

Edit: by the way, I'm young, 21. This really shouldn't be happening my body yet in case anyone is wondering
Oh my gosh Engel I really thought I was the only one who had that! I'm so relieved to know that I'm not alone.

Can we escaped together Ria?
Hope it goes well, im meant to be in group 6 that gets it, but im driving myself mad about getting it. I'm already so ill so do I risk having the vaccine and getting ill why my immune system fights off any potential reaction or risk getting covid and being very ill/die. The last 'normal' virus i had nearly killed me and took me months to recover. But if we keep having to have vaccines every so often and I have a reaction, I am not sure I can keep putting my body through it. So many of us with chronic illnesses feel like we are in between a rock and a hard place, not easy decisions for some.

I kmow of a few people with EDS in the hamster world.
It amazes me when it comes up again and again, maybe they are the perfect pet for people with chronic illnesses.

I think there is going to be an alternative jab for people with immune deficiencies but not sure when. Instead of a vaccine it is an antibody jab. So just gives a dose of antibodies. I am in a similar situation as would like to have the vaccine (when it’s my turn re age group) but they won’t give it to me due to previous reactions to vaccine and previous anaphylaxis.

My Dad is on a care home and should be getting the vaccine this week end. It has been very worrying as there are now a lot of COVID cases in his care home. I hope it’s not too late. They should have prioritised care homes before Christmas.

My Sister had the Oxford one recently as a nurse abd says she had side effects but nothing everyone does.

I'm in the shielding group..well.. depending on what meds im on each week i pop in and out of it lol But I'm on immuno drugs and just started a new one.

My 84yr old Grandma got her vaccine today... and walked down a hill, in 7" snow, without her walking stick to get it... ill let you use your imagination as to how that phone call went!

I'm in group 4 for the vaccine and sadly, despite my mum having covid and a blood clot bad in the first lockdown, much of my family aren't wanting to have it. I have tried to provide them with non biased, peer reviewed information but sadly they refuse to even read it.

I have read there may be issues with people on immuno drugs with the vaccine not being AS effective, but my logic is SOME vaccine is better than NO vaccine.

Im used to being a medical guinea pig and to be honest I'm past caring. So when I get the invite, I'm attending with party hats and balloons and cakes!
