Maybe it could be suggested to them that hamsters are very therapeutic when people are stuck at home. They might have wanted to rehome it but it doesn’t sound like they would neglect it. I hope not anyway. Maybe the child will get so bored stuck at home they get interested again. That might be a different matter if it was not being looked after properly. In fact it is a very worrying time for neglected pets with so many businesses not working to full capacity- pet rescues and Rspca - I wonder how they are coping. Pet shops are on the list of shops that are allowed to stay open.

I'm so glad that pet shops are on the list of businesses that are allowed to stay open. I was concerned about whether the animals that are in these shops would be looked after during all this.

We are going into lockdown in my country from Friday enforced by the Army and Police.

My wife's horse who stays at a stable yard nearby gets daily ulcer medication and a very specific diet which only my wife can mix and she's been told she is not permitted to continue doing this.

That is very difficult and worrying for you both. Could the horse be moved? I am guessing a garden wouldn’t be suitable - unless you can quickly make a makeshift stable or convert a garage or something.

This is the text sent by the Uk Government today. Supposed to be sent to all mobile phones after a deal with mobile phone companies but not everyone has received it. I did but OH hasn’t had it on his phone

“CORONAVIRUS ALERT New rules in force now: you must stay at home. More info & exemptions at gov.uk/coronavirus. Stay at home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.”

The link is here and takes you to this page

Wednesday was my son's 11th birthday, his Grammy had arranged for a birthday sign that took our entire front yard. When I showed him in the morning he was upset and said, "no one is going to see it." My heart broke for him! I sent a message to my husband who is still working out "in the world" and his business partner posted a message on our Facebook city community page to help out.

We had total strangers drive by our house honking and yelling birthday wishes to my son all day long. A police officer made an appearance, blared the siren and announced his birthday over the loudspeaker and one person told my son he was "Facebook Famous!" Are there any words that could possibly excite a tween boy more? My community banded together to create a birthday our family will never forget. It is a prime example how simple acts of kindness can make a huge difference.

Today my son told me that was his favorite birthday so far. There was no big party, only one of his presents was here but he felt like the most important kid in the world! My heart is so full of gratitude.

That brought a huge smile to my face. One of the best things I have read.
There are great examples of community support and kindness here too.

That is so lovely to hear, times are hard but it really is bringing people together in different ways, I'm sure it's one birthday your son will never forget!

HAPPY BELATED 11TH BIRTHDAY from everyone at Hamster Central! Here are people from all over the world and you could post a photo of your son's Birthday banner in your front garden if you have one so even more people can see it which would make him even more famous.
