It is very hard. Some things we can make do. I searched high and low for paracetamol for my father who can’t manage without it. Found some eventually but that was a few days ago. Chemists should keep some things prescription only.

Being out in the sticks we normally shop online but there are no delivery slots for 3 weeks. And the dates stop at 3 weeks in advance! I am sure places will stock up again. I have plenty of hamster food if things get desperate

Our worry is the schools being open - we are just short of the “elderly “ bracket but can’t self isolate with a child going to a school environment daily. We can all just take the best care we can. Try smaller shops rather than big supermarkets maybe. Antiviral gel was sold out long before we thought of it but soap is fine.

I've heard about that but have to be careful what I take as I have gastric issues.

I have a rare syndrome called Ehlers Danlos. You can Google it for more in depth info but in a nutshell it effects the connective tissues mainly. Like tendons and ligaments. Easiest way to think of it. Get a over used elastic band or hairband. Now get 2 pens. Line them up like your knee or elbow joint. Now try and attach the 2 without twisting or doubling up the elastic band. It will remain loose. Only way to tighten it is to make the band shorter. However, with use, it'll stretch out again, becoming loose.

It also effects anything with collagen in it. Now, for those who don't know what collagen is, its what allows bones to be strong without shattering and allows skin to be stretchy. Everything in the body has collagen. Organs, bones blood vessels. Everything. It's almost like my body has too much collagen so I'm very stretchy and flexible but this comes with the prices of extreme pain, dislocations, organ and blood issues....you get the idea.
So far this year I've had bulging discs, sciatica more times I can count, dislocated fingers, wrist, shoulder, elbow, knee and jaw.

Ive got to be very careful what I use on my skin and in my body. Shampoos (all but 2 and one is discontinued now) create lesions on my scalp. Soaps make my skin crack and bleed.

Essentially my body is a mess so I'm wary of what I have. Some swear by udder cream for inflammation. Tried it, had no effect. Paracetamol has very little effect but I use it when I'm desperate. Pregabalin had no effect on pain. Even local anaesthetic I'm tolerant to. Went for a filling and many injections later, I could still feel everything.

So yeh, thanks but no thanks.

Today's lesson on rare syndromes that you didn't ask for was bought to you by me, Engel. Sorry to waffle

Edit: by the way, I'm young, 21. This really shouldn't be happening my body yet in case anyone is wondering

No bloody painkillers ANYWHERE which is great considering my joints are funky and dislocate all the time. There was none of my soap I use and ive only found one that doesn't react on my skin.

I'm gluten and dairy intolerant and that was a task trying to get any of the things I can eat/drink. No veggies anywhere or meats so for meals I'm screwed.

So the virus may not get me but because of inconsiderate a**holes I'll probably starve to death instead. So whoever finds my body, be warned I probably wasn't able to shower for a while and smell like a wow wow.

As for bog roll. I'll just wipe my a** on the grass like a demented dog with worms. Just someone come and help get me up though, yeh?

Also those of you who have neighbors or relatives that are at high risk, please check that they are ok and have everything that they need during these times.

Thank you, and sorry for the rant.
I am sending you a PM - i will help if I can.x

In the US we're now facing a possible nationwide lockdown of some sort. I've personally been able to get most things I need - shockingly enough according to two family members who have been doing the shopping there was very little dog food left(thankfully they still ended up getting a decent enough brand without any ingredients to trigger his allergies)!

I'm also in a similar boat with shampoo and soap. I'm supposed to have that tomorrow, and as I have pretty bad reactions. I know I'm not going to let my skin have a reason to get as bad as I've had it(my worst reaction is mildly permanently scarring and it hurt horribly - and that's just minimal detail). Pets have been very helpful for the stress personally, and there's a lot of it even if you try not to dwell on things!

Engel, I'm really sorry to hear about your condition. I've never heard of it but you explained it very well.

I really hope you manage to get everything you need.

While I understand that everybody wants to ensure they have enough of what they need, this panic buying thing really really angers me. Total selfishness. We have started seeing it here in the last day or two.

Adding to this all my wife has a sore throat and cough this evening and i feel like I'm getting one too

Engel do take care - rest maybe. I am aware of Ehlers Danlos. Could your gp provide painkillers on prescription? But rest may help. And breathing meditations maybe. Sorry that’s not much use is it. I was once taught a breathing meditation and it really helps with pain - detaches the brain impulse somehow. You count to five breathing in (in your mind) and count to five breathing out and focus on the breathing and nothing else. Then you think about breathing in white light on the 5 in breaths, and breathing out black smoke on the out breaths. Hope that helps. With practice you can do it anywhere.

Hope you and yours are ok Vierville. We’re ignoring all symptoms unless it’s a fever so we don’t get anxious. OH sneezes about 3 times a day but that’s normal for him. I get headaches and sore throats and that’s just something else causing that that is normal for me.

There will be an end to all this - we just have to hang in. Esther Rantzen suggested older people or those with health problems who are self isolating could write their life story to keep them occupied and productive.

So my mum was in contact with a now confirmed case last Tuesday. We found out it was a confirmed case yesterday evening.

This morning she woke up with a temperature so we're all on 14 days self isolation. I'm pretty scared now even though we're all well fortunately, with no long term conditions. When you read about this in the news you tend to function on the assumption it won't happen to you.

I am so sorry. It is not supposed to be a serious thing for anyone under 40 I believe. It is us oldies and people with certain conditions who are older who can get affected more. I read it may be something to do with how the immune system works in younger and older people. So it’s hardly supposed to affect children or young people but we all need to take precautions. Take care.

Thanks. Me and my twin brother are 22 so statistically we should be fine. My parents are early fifties so should still be ok. You always think of the worst though, but we don't even know it's coronavirus in my mum's case of course. It's easy to forget there are so many other illnesses around.
