Red face Reptile sand,is it ok?

I just bought a bag of reptile sand, it was on clearance for $7.57. I just saw a thread saying it is bad??? What is wrong with it? Its very soft, not rough at all.
Its the only sand I could find.

It's not considered safe as the safety is at best questionable. There are many factors that make it unsuitable, and the general consensus even in the reptile community is that reptile specific sand is often dusty(among other issues). Generally, things made for children also have far higher safety standards and regulations.

Play sand is still cheaper than clearance reptile sand especially in the US, you can find 50 pounds of play sand for less than $5 at Home Depot usually. Yes, it takes extra effort, but knowing it is 100% safe when sifted rinsed and baked is entirely worth it.

Some brands of reptile sand can be dusty, especially in the past.
However, I would check if it is dusty, I buy a brand (UK) that is not dusty.
And feel it with your hand if it feels too rough or dusty.
Also, check if it has any dye or minerals (calcium is common)

If it isn't dusty or has no additives then it should be safe.
Monitor if you spot them sneezing in the sand or seem distressed.
I and many others use reptile sand with no harm caused.

It can be a useful size if you don't have the space to store large amounts of play sand.
Also, it can take time and space to treat playsand.
Whereas, some safe brands of reptile sand can be used straight out of the bag.
My syrian, robo and hybrid dwarf all use it happily with no distress.

Reptisand is safe. It has no added dyes or supplements, and is just quartz sand. Totally fine to use!

Not sure if we are talking about the same reptisand, I ordered and first time using one recommended by youtuber Victoria Raechel, which is the Zoo Med Repti Sand. Is that safe for my robo? It’s soft and smooth, not dusty, no residue on my hands. Got a cooling feel from it.
