Default A controversial hamster item

I’ve been quite luck with my dwarfs over the years. They’ve always bonded with me quickly, outlived their life expectancy, never bit.
I found this item on amazon:

I bought it. It came and TayTay happily walked into it and when I zipped it shut she cozyed in and fell asleep.
Why was this product appealing? Most of my past dwarfs would sit in the pocket of this house sweater I had while watching TV or reading. A few times to complete a chore.
That and the sugarglider pouch always made sense to me for those people who get close to their animals. They can be with you but not escape and you can be with them outside of the cage with out the risk of escape.
The pouch has a plastic screen so the hamster can see and for ventilation. It’s very soft and cuddly.
I wouldn’t recommend walking around a great deal if you purchase and use it as the pouch does get jostled. I was wondering what you guys thoughtin a non-judgmental opinion
Obviously this hamster accessory isn’t one you should leave your hamster in for long periods of time as they need water and all that Jazz. I also obviously if you’re hamster won’t goninto it, chews a lot or once inside doesn’t want to be that don’t use this accessory .
Thought?

Not something that i would buy myself but saying that, i have carried my hamster in a handbag for his own safety because he got excited and wriggly when i tried to carry him to a room for free roaming.

As long as the hamster wants to stay in this pouch and the person carrying him is sitting down and then opens the flap i think its ok but i don't think a hamster should be carried and bounced about with the flap zipped up for more than a transfer purpose like my handbag.

Danger here is that some people may misuse this item by trapping a hamster for their own satisfaction and against his will, especially a hamster who doesn't enjoy being handled.

This sounds very similar to a recent poll, asking our opinion about an item for taking hamsters outside, but it could be unrelated.

Hamsters are solitary creatures and my hamsters have never indicated a need to be with me so I wouldn't carry them around in a pouch. I prefer they sleep in the burrows they have made for themselves. That seems more natural.

To carry them a very short distance within a safe, contained indoor area, such as Ria mentioned from cage to free roam space, might be ok, but carrying them around like some people carry puppies or kittens, absolutely not. Plus, one of these pictures has an outdoor setting which would be a definite no-no for their safety. I would not buy it or use it.

I think maybe you don’t understand the useable of the pouch. It’s not suppose to substitute a nest, cage or anything really.
With all do respect it really bothers me when you hear someone say something like this. Maybe I’m just super fortunate but I haven’t had a dwarf that didn’t bond with me and considering it cannot be proven what they think of humans, it makes the hamster sound almost like breathing decoration and this line of thinking is what feeds into the “well hamsters are throw away starter pet stereotype.
In my experience my hamsters always came to me when I opened their cage. I’ve had dwarfs that have slept on my guest pillow when I was battling oral cancer, stage 3. They all had personalities and not one has ever been the same as one I already owned previously.
No judgement, I just don’t think people give them nearly enough credit.

Used this again last night and same effect. She gets all set, cuddles and sleeps. Spent the length of a movie in it. Didn’t wake up once!

⚠️Update⚠️
So TayTay went into the carrier and snuggled. The. I felt her moving around thinking she was cleaning herself and she actually bit a hole into the front screen. There goes that accessory!

I actually got one of those bags when I first got my hamster, thinking of all the fun I'd have carrying him around in it. Then I realized there was No. Way. that he would get in there and stay in there. It's definitely not hamster proof. While Smokey isn't much of a chewer, he does know how to use his teeth when he sees an easy jailbreak opportunity!
I donated mine to Goodwill. Smokey did go through a (very brief) period of time when he would stay put in the front pouch of a hoodie. I'd put my hands on either side of the pouch to make sure he wasn't wandering off. Maybe that would be an ok alternative for lower escape risk sleepy TayTay snuggle time?
That would never work for Smokey now, mind you. All out of cage time for him appears to be viewed by him as opportunity for reconnaisance for the day that he gets an escape opportunity, so there is no sleepy snuggle time unless I'm sitting in an enclosed bathtub with him... and the sleepy one is me, lol.
