Naming theme set?
So I've been thinking of having a theme for the names of my pet.
My 2 hammys were Elaina and Caroline from Vampire Diaries.
But I'm thinking of Gods and Goddesses now.
I was brought up pagan, so I kinda see the associations between the name and their traits.
Maybe the Norse pantheon: Balder, Bor, Freyja, Freyr, Od, Syn, Odine, Moon ect
Greek like Athena, Demeter, Appolo, Dionysus, Zeus, Hermes ect
Celtic: Morrigan, Ana, Lugh, Brigid, Cliton, Thetis, Gliten ect
Which set sounds like good hammy names?
Most have a good mix of male and female names.
Also thinking of doing this for future pets like cats and dogs.

Re: Naming theme set?
I'll wait till I get them home before I name but thinking of a theme.
Like if their really bight and energetic, god of the sun.
If there mischievous then god of mischief.
Sleepy, god of dreams.
Sisters then sister gods.
Cute little theme.

I used to know a girl called Minerva who ended up a Minnie and one called Morgana (ok not a goddess) but people called her Moggi!

Re: Naming theme set?
I tend to use traditional human names for my Chinese and many are inspired by names in enterainment so Cora was inspired by Lady Cora from Downton Abbey, Jack from Captain Jack Sparrow, Ben was named after Hawkeye from M*A*S*H (Benjamin Franklin Pierce) and John named after Downton Abbey's Valet, Mr John Bates.
I also have a roman theme with Nero (a winter white) and Juno (a chinese, whose actual pedigree name is Junco Vulcani). I had wanted to name my hamstery along this theme but the name I wanted had previously been used by another club member in the past and I didn't want to cause confusion.

Re: Naming theme set?
That are cool sounding names. Especially Jack, picturing him been a climbing one dangling from toy to toy, and falling over drunkenly.
Might go with Norse as they describe hair and personalities a lot more than Celtic.

My Jack's proper name is Jack S. Cormes (The S actually does stand for Sparrow... the Cormes part was his litter name) but he's nothing like his namesake. He's a lazy lad like his father was and ever so cuddly.

I love Norse names. I think some of my Robo's ancestors had Norse names.

I think Phoebe (Phoibe) and Erebus would be great greek mythology names if one happens to be dark coloured and one lighter coloured Phoebe is the goddess of brightness and Erebus means darkness in greek mythology. They would work for both female and male, or female and female.

Re: Naming theme set?
I don't use a naming theme; it took ages for me to decide for a name for Pumpkin. If you're looking for god and goddess names, there's a god called Virtus who is the god of bravery and military techniques. Erin from the YouTube channel ErinsAnimals names her rodents with the names from the Periodic Table. Her new dwarf is called Nitrogen; he's so cute.

Re: Naming theme set?
It's not exactly hamster related but I did want a naming theme for certain pets(Disney, and specifically for guinea pigs), but that was mainly because there could end up being so many that I needed an easy way to add more names just in case without having to think too hard.
In some situations a naming theme works out really well, but in others any pet just seems to name themselves like my Syrian Bambi and so many other wonderful hamsters and pets in general!
I would suggest a broad theme if you can do that, or if there are themes that happen to be quite specific and can get a bit limiting with name options when you might need lots of different names then have several options available instead of just one theme. I am quite biased towards Norse mythology though
