Default Fear Of Touching Hamster

My hamster seems like such a sweet little soul but for some reason Iím just too afraid to touch him. I did my first ďstepĒ of taming by feeding him some treats by holding the food, but Iím just too scared to place the food on the palm of my hand. Does anyone know how to get over this? I donít know why Iím so afraid, I know he couldnít hurt me that bad but Iím still afraid.

I don't know what to suggest other than go for it! Once he's eaten from your palm the fear will melt away and you'll be so proud of yourself! New experiences can always be a bit scary but you'll find so much joy once you overcome this obstacle! Hope that's somewhat helpful! I wish you all the luck!

You do need to try to be confident around your ham, remember that if anything your ham is more likely to e nervous than you are & he needs you to feel confident, trying to get into that frame of mind may help a bit.
You could try putting your hand in the cage & burying your fingers in the substrate with a treat on your palm, your ham will probably walk onto your palm for the treat & it will just be a gentle touch for you to begin with.

Could you get someone else to let him eat from the palm of their hand, that way you can watch how he is with them and it may give you more confidence to try it yourself.

Speaking from recent own experience with the same issue, I can say that it very quickly gets easier =)
If he nibbles on you, just blow a little gust of air on him and he'll stop without you having to hurt him. In a few days I've gone from being too scared to touch my hammie to thinking it's cute when she nibbles my finger to doublecheck that I, still, am not food. Best of luck!

When I first-time encounter with this kind of situation, someone really expert stay beside me and touch and hold so many hamsters at once like nothing, so I guess it is just easy peasy for me, the confidence I got by watching someone holds it make me feel nothing to touch and hold it also. So all in all, you need to have a good first-time experience first, then it should be fine.
