Yes it has really quite upset OH and I - funny how you get fond of even little tadpoles. OH is worried about telling stepson and thought we should say we'd put them back in the river, but I think we'll just have to tell him because he'll only say "why did you put them back in the river". I feel it's my fault as well partly and I should have checked more regularly the last couple of days when it's been so hot. From what I've just read, when it gets very hot, algae proliferates in the water and sucks all the oxygen out of it - so maybe they needed more frequent water changes.

Oh ho, I'm so very sorry that the tadpoles all passed to the bridge. You were taking such excellent care of them and they were really seeming to be thriving; I was looking forward to seeing them all becoming tiny toads and seeing if you or your stepson gave them any names. Do not blame yourself, Serendipity; I'm sure they couldn't have been in any better hands than in yours because you are always so attentive and loving of all of your little pets. Hugs to you and your stepson. RIP little tadpoles; you were all so very cute and will be missed.

Thank you Dreamtree. I did nothing different than usual. But maybe it takes some experience.

Aww no, I too was looking forward to their progress. I do remember having the water at a certain temperature also.

Thanks Thin Lizzy. From what I've read hot weather can do it. And changing water too much could do it too so it seems it's a fairly finite thing.

I'm so sorry about your tadpoles Serendipity. I was just following this thread and it's really saddening how you can't see them become toads. Please don't blame yourself because you looked after them the best you could and with so much care. RIP little tadpoles x

Thank you. Well I thought people could say crass things about hamsters but a friend of our made awful jokes about dead tadpoles and laughed - hmm. Clearly they think I am wishy washy.

That is rather insensitive of them to do. You aren't wishy washy; you just care for animals a lot. It's not a weakness though. It's a great characteristic to have.

Thank you. Like all pets, you get to know them.

Definitely. Some people think you wouldn't bond as much with smaller animals but that just isn't true.
