Saving A Blackbird
Today I saved a young blackbird, fr, a big hatchling, was getting stuck in my parents' kitchen(windows is weird contruction for birds). Basically it had flewn through aopen door the living room to the kitchen. I tried to open a window, but I realised soon that I can't get a scared bird through it.
So I had to capture it, walk through the kitchen and living room, with a panicking bird trying to fly(not a good idea in the living room) and it scream when it sees my dad. Out of the door and let it go. So a happy ending for everybody
However blackbirds are calm and trustful birds, so except from a few feathers, and microcopic scratches on my hands.
No, I don't have pictures of it, It was pretty stressful for the poor bird to be graped by a human alone, even I think it had absolute fine with being in the kitchen, but obiviousily we can't have a wild bird indoor.

Re: Saving A Blackbird
If it's a young one & not injured then the best thing is to put it somewhere safe outside where the parents will come & find it. That usually works fine.

Re: Saving A Blackbird
I'm so glad that the little blackbird is safe and sound outside. Hopefully, it will be reunited with its parents and live a long and happy life. Great job saving it!

Re: Saving A Blackbird
Whew! Glad the blackbird is okay!
I had a similar experience with a coal tit a week ago--it flew into the kitchen via the back door and screeched it's head off. I could hear its mate answering outside. There was no way I would be able to catch such a tiny, fast bird so I had to guide it towards the backdoor and out. Other than terrified, it was fine.

Re: Saving A Blackbird
Good to hear all went well with the Blackbird.
We have Blackbirds nesting in the Clematis on our fence next to our Patio Doors, she has a nest full of eggs..! On top of that we have Blue Tits in a nest box at the bottom of the garden too.

It didn't seem hurt, it flew away faster than canonball out of a cannon.

I'm glad that the little blackbird flew away just fine. I do love happy endings. May it have a splendid, long life. You did such a great job and must feel very proud and happy.
