Default Prefixes?

To the breeders out there, how did you come up with your prefix/name for your hamstery? Did you decide based on a memory or experience? Or perhaps was it based on your geography? Sorry if this has already been asked, (please merge if so) I couldn't find any threads on it aside from the one about fluffagrams asking for suggestions Just curious, thank you!

Oooh that goes back a bit.

When it actually came down to it, I was told that because my first choice of name had previously been used by another member for 20 years, it may cause confusion and I was advised to choose an alternative name. I actually struggled for a bit to come up with anything as an alternative and ended up choosing a name that I considered for a hamster once. A couple of people had suggested Fluffagrams but I wasn't keen and I'd have probably regretted it had I have gone ahead and registered it.

My first choice for a prefix was Wessex Hamstery (I'm in the Wessex area) but that name was already being used. I was a bit stumped until inspiration struck.

Vectis is the Roman name for the Isle of Wight, a place I spent many family holidays. Before my first trip as a young child, I imagined the Island as being somewhere near Antarctica and covered in snow, ice and penguins... Soon after starting to show hamsters I fell in love with black-eyed white Chinese hamsters and knew I wanted to work with them in future. With that aim in mind, I just had to name my hamstery after the Isle of 'White'!

It's only confused a couple of people who thought I was actually based on the Island. I pop over there often as my parents now live there.

It's funny you say that but I thought I might like Wessex Hamstery too but when I checked the prefix list, I saw it had already been registered. Oddly enough, the one I was hoping to register after that was Aquae Sulis which is the Roman name for Bath. I even designed a logo for it but had to scrap all the proposed branding and website theming when I was advised to pick an alternate name.

I guess I was third time 'lucky' with Metallica.

Thank you both so much for replying! I always figured there were some interesting stories behind the names. That's funny how you both thought of roman names

We chose Custard Hamstery because when my daughter (Pophammy) was just short of two (she is 22 now) she got her first hamster from a local, small pet shop who bred their own hamsters. She met the mum and dad and mum was Rhubarb and dad was Custard. Obviously all the babies had to have the surname Custard - her first was Buffy Custard. After that every hamster we got had to have the surname Custard so it was inevitable that when we chose as hamstery name it had to be Custard Hamstery
