Ooops sorry, I should have realised it wasn't your hand as the nails aren't painted and they're short, silly me!

Shepherd's pie is a British thing I think, I don't think it's a Scottish dish as such. I don't like it anyway as I don't like lamb. I like the fluffy lambs in the fields but not to eat them

That made me hungry! Even though you said it was pretty gross, it still looked so appetizing to me lol.

Food in the US is sooo unhealthy, and the healthy stuff is pretty pricey. I'll be the first to admit though that I'm an unhealthy eater in general
I've always wanted to visit the UK, once life settles a bit I plan on going. I think I'm going to travel there 4-5 years from now. Looking forward to hearing about all your adventures

Just been catching up with your thread - you live in such a beautiful area of Spain - it was lovely to see you photos and learn a little more about your region of Spain. I haven't been to Spain for a few years now - my family use to have our holidays in Marbella when I was really young (and have visited a couple other towns/cities in Andalusia) but have longed to see more areas of Spain.

It was interesting to hear about the food you ate when you visited London - although I have never myself ate at any of those places - restaurants in London can very expensive.
I'm not offended my your opinions on British food - they aren't many places which serve iconic British food normally pubs are only place really along with a few cafe, and fish n chips can be found in fish and chip shops. But a lot of British food has a lot of influences from other cultures and cuisines too.

Thank you BP, Lizzy, and SKB for your understanding. As I said, is not that bad, and thinking about it I really only ate one typical food that was English Breakfast, I would have love to try your pastys, pots and pies, but I couldn't find any place. I knew that some pubs serve good food, but we don't like beer and we didn't want to risk to enter in one and find that they didn't serve food and leave without ordering anything or have to order something that we didn't want. I don't like fish and I'm not particularly fan of fried things, so I didn't want to try the typical fish and chips, maybe that was a mistake!

Drago as I've already told you I would love to go to USA. Some day I hope I will. My boyfriend ended up so tired of your food, because he said that it was very unhealthy, but he loved it, he loved apple bees and other places that he always talks about. He always says that I would love it (I really enjoy fast food), but I would end up weighting 20 more kilos probably he's right because I don't have selfcontrol at all.

SKB Spain is a small country, but the different regions of Spain are very different from each other. I think that the south and the north are completely different, and I'll try to show it to you all in this thread. Actually something that I find really funny is that usually foreign people when think about Spain think in paella, sevillanas and toros (bulls), and none of those things are famous in the north. Actually I kinda hate sevillanas and toros.

I agree about the different areas of Spain - over here on the east coast (Valencia) we don't have as much rain as you do in the north. They don't call it Green Spain for nothing! And, as you know, we have the only TRUE paella over here. Ask any Valenciano and they will tell you that you shouldn't even put seafood (mariscos) in it.

BTW if you ever get down to Sagunto, I will cook you a REAL shepherd's pie - promise.

Just catching up on your thread. I loved seeing your pics and descriptions of the food and service. Thanks for sharing your experiences with all of us. I have always wanted to visit Europe; and hopefully, I will one day! I absolutely love the pic with you and the butcher's knife. I also love the face you bf drew for you. Was he trying to make you resemble Blacky? BTW, I truly love Sheppard's Pie! How scrumptious!

I also agree that the food in the U.S. isn't always as healthy as you may want, but I tend to enjoy it a lot. I agree with your bf, Applebee's is a nice place to dine. There are a bunch of delicious entrees to choose from and it is a family-oriented restaurant.

Hamsterita I live in London (well, the outskirts, not the city) but have actually never eaten in any of the places you mentioned. Then again, my family don't eat out much. A lot of restaurants don't seems to serve traditional English food, however. Not that I think we have much - we stole most of our ideas from other cultures! Off the top of my head, I'd probably say things such as: roast chicken dinners, steak, pies, pastries, Cornish pasty, English pancakes, fish and chips, fish pie, full English breakfast, sausage and mash, shepherds pie, cottage pie, lamb stew etc are all more or less traditional English meals.

I have to say I do love Spanish food, so I can't blame you if you didn't like ours much in comparison. Paella is especially yummy!

Felicity is funny that you mentioned that!! I love my dad's paella and he puts seafood in it But I already knew that paella shouldn't have seadfood. I would like to use that invitation If I go to Sagunto!

Dreamtree thanks, I'm glad you like it. The one that is holding the butcher's knife is my bf. My photo was too silly to be posted! I was the one that made the drawings, and I did it on purpose to not show my face. I don't mind if you guys could see my face, I could say that I even consider some users from HC as buddies, but this thread has less than 55 posts (and a lot of posts are from the same people) and more than 1000 views, that means that there are a lot of people that at least opens the thread, and probably read it, and I know nothing about them, so I don't feel confortable posting my face If everybody can see it and I can't control or know who can see it or not... I don't know if you understand me...

AprilPearl thank you. It's good to hear that I'm not cheap and that I'm not the only one that think that restaurants in London are expensive, I thought that with your average income (it's far higher than ours) it could be affordable. Anyway I would recommend some of them for a special day. Those foods sound delicious!! It's a pity I didn't give them a try! Have you ever been in Spain?

---

I'm sorry for abandoning this thread all these days, it has been a hell of a week. I have a lot of pics to share with you of typical Spanish food, but I didn't have time to upload them and to write the post, and I don't know if I will have enough time in a while, But i'll do it, I promise!

Lol you made me laugh! I was once told in France that the English have terrible food. I replied that we eat lots of amazing food - Italian food, Indian Food, French food - lol. A lot of people on the continent think we live on fish and chips and bacon and eggs. Actually fish and chips is so expensive now we couldn't afford to if we wanted to ha ha.

At home we eat quite a basic diet (in our family anyway) of meat and two veg or fish and two veg. I sometimes think the main difference between our diets and Italian or Spanish diets is we eat a lot more potatoes (as that's what grows here) rather than pasta or rice for our carbohydrates, and traditional English food has less spices - apart from black pepper. A Sunday Roast is a good English meal (and I think the French call us Roast Beefs!) Most people eat a lot of Italian and Indian food and Spanish food is popular now as well. But I honestly think Chilli con carne is the Mexican equivalent of English Mince beef and potatoes - with tomatoes and spices added and rice instead of potatoes. Especially when I found out the translation for Chilli con carne is - Chilli with meat

Personally we ate a lot of fish when I was growing up because my Grandfather sold wet fish from the docks in his shop Fish is SO expensive here now.

I had the most amazing grilled fresh sardines when I was in Spain and tortilla was my favourite snack. What we would call a spanish omelette I guess!

I once took an iced Christmas cake to Spain when I visited some South American friends, as a gift for Christmas. They didn't believe it was a real cake lol. Royal Icing looks very much like plaster of paris. It wasn't till we cut it open they believed it was a real cake ha ha. Apparently our rich fruit cake is known as pudding. I like exchanging foodie things and recipe ideas. I still can't make a tortilla though - have tried a few times.
