Default Hamster Subscription Box

I couldn't find any threads about this, so I figured I would share what I found.

A lot of you might know about subscription boxes. For those of you who don't, a subscription box is a box of random goodies that will be delivered to you monthly. These subscriptions usually follows a theme, such as video games, health, dogs, beauty, candy or even gourmet.
The contents of the box changes every month, so most subscription boxes won't give you the same items multiple times, but it depends on the company.

I just found out that there's a newly started subscription box called 'Hamster Hamper'. The box comes in 2 sizes:

Small which includes 4-6 items and
Large which includes 7-9 items

With a box like this you could surprise your hamster (or yourself) with a few new accessories and snacks every month.
I found that vanillahamham has made a video about this box in case you are wondering what kind of items could be included.

It seems like it's mainly aimed at syrians, but of course other species would be able to use the chews as well, you might just want to pick out the sugary treats.

What do you all think? Is this a yay or nay?
I could definitely see myself subscribing to this (:

I recently saw this video and have since become very interested in it I once subscribed to a similar thing, but for my dogs and they absolutely loved getting brand new treats and toys on a monthly basis! The other cool thing about these boxes is that they're dramatically cheaper than going out and buying all of these toys and treats yourself. I also think it's great because it supports a small, family owned business.

It could possibly be a "yay!" and have potential...the fun of a surprise package.

I have been seeing a lot of hamster treats with sugar, honey and other sweeteners in them, though, so I want to read the ingredients. Many toys have gaps and sharp edges that could seriously injure a hamster so I inspect everything before buying.

So I guess my answer is somewhere between "yay" and "nay". It sounds fun, but for the safety and well being of a pet I'd want to see it first.

It seems nice, but I'd want to have packaging for every single item to know what they consist of where applicable(bowls, some toys, etc maybe wouldn't require this but it is absolutely crucial with treats to be as safe as possible).

I'd love to get UK exclusive items though, which is a massive benefit to this box,so that does need consideration. If the chews and such are worth the(expensive)US shipping along with box cost, maybe, but I don't think it would be something I'd want to do all the time considering it is very expensive and there are lots of safe items in the US and elsewhere without the massive cost It could be worth testing out or getting for special occasions though,or more regularly purchased for those in the UK or even Europe.

I would love to try a box like that, but I have yet to find one where I don't have to pay as much as or sometimes even more than the box for shipping.

For those who don't want to watch the entire video, the contents are
- Woodlands Willow Twist Stick - good, if your hamster likes to chew wood (Inky ignores it)
- Small bendy bridge - always useful!
- Rosewood ceramic food bowl - not useful for me, as I scatter feed
- Beaphar Banana Nibbly Bitz (dried banana dipped in honey) - I wouldn't want these as the honey is unnecessary additional sugar, and Inky loves plain dried banana
- Two treat sticks, brand name not supplied - meh. If I had a dwarf I'd definitely want to sese the list of ingredients before buying.
- Pets at Home bamboo ladder - heaven only knows how the retail price of this is £8 when the bendy bridge style ladders are far safer and more durable, and Wilko sells a similar wood and rope version in their bird section for £3
- Woodlands bamboo & corn chew toy - good toy, if your hammy likes that sort of thing
- Vitakraft beetroot drops (sugar free) - sounds good

Overall - I can't see myself wanting to spend £21.99 on something like this, on the grounds that some of it will always be less than useful, and I could probably get better value for money picking items out one by one online.

Thanks for the suggestion Penguin .

I would probably look at ordering a one-off box for the pets. It looks good to me and I can use some of the treats for my guinea pigs instead of overloading Larry-Jasper. I do tend to give away treats to my friend as well when I have a ton (like right now).

For me, it seems like good value for money. Might order one to split between the guins and Larry-Jasper for their birthdays and order the Leif cabin I've had my eye on.

The treats don't look too guinea pig friendly. The fruit treats(not good for guinea pigs to begin with)have honey which is an animal product(guinea pigs shouldn't have animal products). The beet drops have corn, and being a grain it definitely isn't a good thing to have especially on top of daily pellets(even the best quality pellets for piggies which are superior to mixes have some form of grain) The seed sticks definitely wouldn't be safe,as seeds and grain are difficult for guinea pigs to digest.

I do think if you get the Woodlands Willow Twist Stick it would be wonderful for guinea pigs though,or feed the drops one per guinea pig as an extremely rare treat. The drops and banana chips(with caution due to elevated sugar content)would be fine for hamsters though, but the sticks are honestly far too questionable to take a risk on.

I feel as though overall it's a cute idea. You don't necessarily have to use all of it, and you can always check to make sure it's safe before using it. I just think it would be fun to receive a surprise package around a holiday or other such special occasion! I think at some point in the future I'll order it, at least for the novelty

It is a nice idea but I think you might end up just spending money to get things that might not be suitable or things you already have, I'm a bit of a pessimist with things like this
