Get one if you want to! Don't give up hope just yet xxx It must be hard though. She may have found a route in the walls and be somewhere else by now.

Um, I'm not too sure how it's going. I keep feeling like I hear something, but I don't know if that's me being hopeful or not. There was a piece of chicken close to the hole gone, but I also don't know if that was a cat. We're going to get the new hammie later today and see how that goes I'll post a picture of the new baby later!

Use peanut butter (smooth version) – smoother it on something heavy like a book approximately 50cm from the hole. The smell of peanut butter is quite potent and very tempting.

You need to sit next to the wall that she’s in – quietly, for as long as it takes. Make no sudden movements, stay quiet.

Get something fairly large – a piece of cardboard for example, or a dinner tray something like that, and when she makes her exit to get to the peanut butter very gently place the cardboard over the hole so she can’t dart back.

The thing about peanut butter smothered on something heavy is that she can’t pick it up and run off, she has to sit and lick it up. That buys you time.

Before you do pull an all nighter waiting for her to come out, you could just get something long – like a ruler and put the tiniest amount of peanut butter on it, put that up the hole and just try to gently coax her out. Inching out the ruler slowly, but that might be less successful.

There's like a 1% chance that the peanut butter can present a choking risk, however, weighing up the risk vs the con's - its incredibly unlikely and the risk of her being injured or hurt while out of her cage is much higher than the hazard from the peanut butter, so for this exercise it just serves a purpose, she’ll be completely fine and I say fairly confidently it should work.

You can always use strawberry Petit filous yoghurt as well - it's what I use for super aggressive hamsters as part of taming, works a charm - they can't resist it.

On a side note, maybe revisit her cage, there could be something about she doesn't much like - is it too open, too enclosed? Bed too big/small. Would plastic be better, would bars be better, is it too big, too small, is it too overcrowded with toys, or not enough toys, do you clean it too regularly (alot of people are guilty of this), I'm not saying this is the reason, she could just be the adventurous type.

Thank you so much for all of the great info- it's really helpful. We'll definitely try everything we can to get her out still. We did try sitting there one night, but we had no luck. The problem with her cage was that it was plastic and she chewed through it. We have cages with bars now, so we've been trying to coax her into one of those as well as a tall bin to fall into. We'll keep trying and see if it works!

You'll get her tonight. Don't worry.

You'll look back and laugh one day. I had a rat who refused to go back in the cage after free range. He hid under a massive sofa bed. Pulled the whole thing to pieces and every time I almost got him he darted under another bit. I gave up at 2am after several hours. I have a photo of him peeping out from where he was hiding and he had this massive smile on his face.

Anyway. I slept on the sofa. 4am I woke up to him on my actual face. Literally face plonked on me. Of course the moment I stirred he jumped off and ran back under the bed but I got up opened the cage door and said Theo do you want to go back in now? He was peering out, saw the door was open and raced back inside. The massive plonker. He wanted a drink!

Stay calm, they can sense your stress and that makes them uneasy.

Have you spoken to your neighbours? They might know something and be able to help?

Cucumber was how I got Charlie out from behind something a couple of times - his desire for that outweighed his desire not to be caught! Hammy chocolate drops do well as well (not human chocolate though).

Have you got the tube over the hole leading into a cardboard box and the bucket trap and cage nearby? Looking forward to meeting the new fluff When you get her, get all her old bedding with her. I remember souffle saying the smell of a female's bedding should draw them out. So you could put some of that near the hole too.

We got a little boy, and his name is Papyrus. Hopefully the picture posts with this reply. Thank you everyone for the support! I'm going to try cucumber and see how that goes, and hopefully hearing/smelling another hamster will encourage her to come out
