It isn't that strange to think that food and things used in food could help with illness or just give some relief at least.Maybe some chocolate? There's been information I saw at one point saying that it even helped to open up rat respiratory systems if given in a small and safe amount,so in theory that may also apply to humans. It's worth trying at least, and either way chocolate can definitely make a lot of people feel better

Salt water is quite commonly used for a gargle & cayenne pepper would stimulate the circulation in your throat giving a warming effect so it makes sense that would give some relief.

Eating certain strong tasting foods like red peppers helps to unblock my nose when I've got cold symptoms and they're fairly good for you too. I don't have much to add since everyone has responded with so many good ideas!

An excuse to eat chocolate? Don't say that twice!

That's very interesting. I had no idea why it worked or if I had gone mad. Whenever I tell people about it, they certainly look like it's weird

Yup, i read it (: It was more the mix between salt and cayenne pepper that I didn't understand. Or more precisely, I was wondering if it was all the salt water or if the cayenne pepper actually did something

I'm fairly sensitive to spices, so I think the cayenne pepper has done the work for me as far as unblocking my nose goes. I will definitely add this to my list though! I'll save all the information I got here in a document and open it whenever I need it (:
