Default Plastikote being a pain to work with

I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong, but I have been painting my karlie wonderland wooden wheel with plastikote and it's a nightmare!

I'm not sure if it's the paint brush or if I'm applying a layer that's to thin, but I'm experiencing bubbles, clumps of paint building up in every angle of the running track and when the paint is dry, it's rough like sandpaper!

When painting I can easily see the brush's hair leaving a track in the paint as if I was painting with glue. The plastikote isn't old or thick or anything, not before I apply it.

Am I doing anything wrong or have any of you experienced the same? Is it really going to be that rough when dry?

The only time I've had problems anything like that is when I've applied it a bit too thickly rather than too thin, with the first coat I just apply a little & almost scrub it into the wood (wrecks your brush!) it works better with a really stiff bristle brush rather than something soft like nylon for the first coat too.
Once the first coat's dry the second (again very thin) coat should go on really easily.

I tried that but it still doesnt seem as smooth as I would like :q However, the results I'm getting now are far better than before!

Can you apply too thick of a coat? I mean could you apply so much in 2 coats that it would be unhealthy for the hamster?

Too much isn't unhealthy, it won't make any difference to your ham, I usually apply at least two sometimes 3 coats to something like a wheel that may get a lot of pee on it!
If you apply it too thickly in one go it doesn't always dry properly & can be slightly tacky so thin coats always work best.

It will have plenty of time to dry I think (: I am having trouble with the small edge on the running track though. I can't see if I covered the inside of it properly or not, so I got worried that I had applied too much just to make sure it wasnt too little lol

Thank you though! I am feeling all handy with my small DIY sanding down edges, removing splinters and plastikoting whatever might need it (:
I think i had too much fun fixing up this one
