Default Re: How do I convince parents to let me get a hamster.

My mum has always hated small animals with tails (but she doesn't mind my guinea pig), hamsters included. After I got Larry-Jasper, and showed her how tame and cute he is, she got over that fear of hamsters. She still won't hold him, because he is small and fast, but she doesn't mind petting him.

You really have to show your parents that hamsters aren't scary or vicious.

My dad is quite happy to look after Larry-Jasper, but again will only pet him. My parents know how much I love and care for all my pets, so that helps.

When I was convincing my parents, I think the main point that I focused on was that having a hamster would help teach me about responsibility etc. Maybe just try to prove that you're serious about it, and that wanting a hamster isn't going to be a passing phase that you forget about
Show that you understand all the maintenance and all the things you might need. Maybe even ask for/buy books on hamsters to show that you're willing to learn about them.
