This article might help - it's quite well-written by a breeder. You were on the right lines worrying about too much carbohydrates and fats. Anyway there are all kinds of interesting tips in here that might help. eg how to tell if the hamster is going hypo or hyper (ie too much sugar or not enough carbohydrate) and what to do about it.

Just read the artical. High fiber & protein, low carbs & fats!

Talked about pedialyte for their water to prevent dehtdration.

Broccoli would be high in fiber. Artical said no molasses yet Mazuri lab blocks has it in it.

I'll try to make it simple: order Burgess, get him Broccoli & Pedialyte tomorrow. I don't think Cinnamon has much time left?

Hopefully it causes a positive change in health!Along with the other things you could add probiotics if you're not giving any already

It is all such a worry isn't it. I think a sugar-free mix and hydration might help hopefully Broccoli sounds good too. Any ham-safe veg will help with fibre and vitamins. I wouldn't put vitamins in water, but the hemp seeds are supposed to contain all vitamins and minerals. Charlie (surprisingly) really liked hemp seeds and licked them off a spoon

Probiotics are to help with repopulating the gut with friendly bacteria after antibiotics kill all bacteria (good and bad). Not necessarily needed right now or relevant for the diabetes.

Hope the Burgess doesn't take too long. Diabetes is such a nasty disease for hamsters and you have been taking good care of them. If you think Cinnamon doesn't have much time left, then it is probably a case of just what she likes (I am sure she would like broccoli!) - but fingers crossed things improve xxx

So based on the pictures of Cinnamon do you think he is in the later stages of Diabetes?
He had a 10 day course of anti-biotic so probiotic probably not needed
I'll look into hemp & fenugreek seeds today.

Which is exactly when probiotics are needed.
We discussed what you can get in the US in one of your other threads but I can't remember what it was now.

You can't really judge from photos tbh, only you can really judge his quality of life, how well he eats, how much he drinks & pees, how dehydrated he might be, how much energy he has & how those energy levels fluctuate are all markers of the degree or severity of his illness.

Hemp seeds are just a nutritional health supplement. Fenugreek is more of a medical herb and maybe needs expert dosage. I would hold off on Fenugreek for now. Amazon sells some organic ones. I've found the shelled/hemp ones quite light and fluffy and easy for them to eat

Ok thanks Cypher & Serendipity,

Cypher, I had no idea what probiotics are so I don't remember talking about it on one of my threads.

People from Hamster Hideout, a friend of mine used fenugreek. They say to start out with 6 seeds in the morning & 4 seeds at night. Or you could just give him 5 seeds all at once, not to exceed 25 seeds per day. My friend from that forum said that she didn't know if the seeds helped her hamster or not as he still has to be PTS just over a year old.

Serendipity I looked at the hemp seeds, will see if health food sells it, could that be used on all hamsters, healthy hamsters inc robos?
