Not necessarily CB. The whole event of taking the animal in to the vet and having the vet jab him with needles can be quite stressful. If the creature is very poorly it can be kinder to let him go in the way nature planned imo. It might not look great to us, but I believe there may be some purpose in a slower passing by preparing one to cross over. Not to say in every case but it is something to consider.

Ok this is the first time I ever heard this? I'm thinking of rushing Chloe to the SPCA to be PTS if her tumor makes her sick. Sometimes one needle can end alot of suffering if the animal is starving to death for example, I surrendered an animal that couldn't eat along with another one that was bleeding cause she had a tumor on uterus (found out later) but a couple took them under their wing & got them all the expensive vet help & they lived many more months after that. If I would have kept them they both would have died. I couldn't sit here & watch this happen. It was too stressful to me but they went to live with a woman out of state who looked after them till they died peacefully & I was told the lady was in tears.

So I prolonged their lives with medical treatment just like when humans get sick we need Drs.

I don't believe in putting animals to sleep unless they are very sick and there is no hope that they will recover & that they are obviously suffering. Just like we don't have assisted suicide Dr.s (I should hope not)

So I suppose we are taking things into our own hands by having animals PTS, ONLY if it's done prematurely.

Sooty passed away this morning... Broke my heart...

She was very old (11 years to be precise!) and had stopped eating very slowly. These past few days she lost a lot of weight very quickly indeed. She would just sit hunched in a corner of the hutch. Then her breathing became laboured. She has always had problems with her eyes (something to do with the third eyelid the vet said years ago) and because of it they have always been weepy and gunky. We had to clean them every day until it cleared up. It was on and off her whole life. Where she hadn't been cleaning herself in her old age, her eyes got very bad in about 24 hours. One day they were okay, the next, her eyes were literally glued shut with gunk and it was very distressing to see. I cleaned them gently and it took a few minutes before she would open them again, they were obviously sore and sensitive.

Today i found her sitting in a corner with her head up in the air. She had her mouth open and was making all sorts of strange noises as she breathed. It was horrible. I touched her and she would growl and flinch. Her eyes were so gunky they were both shut again. I was very upset and left her alone for a couple of hours. When i went back to check on her she had collapsed and was laying on her side, her back legs stiff, but she was trying to get back up and she couldn't. She was struggling...

We went out for an hour or so, my boyfriend wanted to take my mind off it, and so she could pass in peace and as comfortably as possible. Sure enough, when we got back, she was gone...

It was incredibly distressing. Her and evie's deaths were all very distressing for me. Normally they get taken to be pts before they get to such a stage... But due to me not having the funds, i was forced to let nature do the work.

I hope that when the time comes for any of my other animals, that i have the money to have them get put to sleep by a vet and not let them go naturally unless i know that it will be in their sleep. Its been a horrible few weeks for me. First Lilly, then Evie and now Sooty... :'(

Oh hrl20100 I am so sorry, you are by no means a bad pet parent....try to focus on the fantastic life your pets have to get to a grand age. I know it's not easy, and losing three so close together.

Hopefully flump and Hugo will sense your emotion and provide some comfort.

Play well at the bridge little bunny Sooty!

Sending you hugs x

So very sorry at the news even though you knew it was coming. A wonderful age Sooty bunny had reached and that shows what a wonderful pet owner you are. You cannot help your current financial circumstances, so please do not blame yourself.
Sending you hugs as well.

So sorry about Sooty hrl.
I so hope you don't have to go through anymore sadness, they say things happen in threes so I'm hoping you have some happiness.

So sorry. Death is never easy. She was likely unaware of much of her last time being one foot in the next world already. She is at peace now. She had a good long life with you and that is a wonderful thing. RIP Sooty. Hugs. X
