Questions on Robos

So it wont be anytime soon but I thought, it's never too early to get educated. So I was thinking of getting a new hammie because as we all know they are addictive, and while doing so I was think about what kind I should get, and I have always found Robos to be cute, but being as I currently home a Syrian I am not quite sure as to if I should get a Robo or a LH syrian. So to make things a bit easier and to just know in general I was wondering what the difference was between a Syrian and Robo. For instance what food is best for which, if they would need more or less space, what kind of toys you can have, what kind of toys you can not have and so on. So if anyone has anything they would be kind enough to share I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you

I have Maddi in a 20 gal long tank which is perfect for her right now & I have Latte in a bin with more floor space than that. 360 in would be even a bit small I think for a robo but it works if you can't provide more.

They are quieter, eat less, more hands off, lower maintenance & fun to watch & feed seeds & treats too.

Depends on how much you want to handle your hammie. My robos will sit in my hand for a few seconds then they are off again. Mine aren't skittish which I'm fortunate there. They will go into a cup for easy transport. I love my robos so it pretty much comes down to do you want to be able to hold your hamster or not?

i currently have a 50 gallon tank and so if i were to get a robo he or she would live in there, i dont mind not being able to hold my hammie as much but i suppose that is a big thing to consider.

50 gal would be really nice for either species. I think many robos are real skittish & completely hands off too which is something else to know. That can be really frustrating. I'm able to interact with mine & they don't run from me but that's not always the case. Also, on the other side I have seen people hold their robos on You Tube videos. I think that's pretty uncommon though? Latte will run up my sleeve from time to time but that's about it. Also, she's 11 mo now & starting to show signs of slowing down. So they aren't always on high speed as they age which you would think that would make them easier to handle but for the most part if you have a robo that's friendly, would make a nice pet but like I was saying it won't be cuddly

hmm ok well thank you, i think just giving one a home where he will have enough space, to run around freely would be nice. I have plenty of time to consider it tho, as i wont get one till a long time from now but thought it would be good to learn about them beforehand. Thank you for helping, i appreciate it

Syrians do tend to prefer more space,usually they'll chew silicon in tanks no matter what.I think a 50 gallon tank would be perfect for a robo,and if you truly want to go with a robo I think a robo is the best option.

Toys for robos are very easy to find,and they're extremely cheap compared to Syrian toys if that makes a difference at all.There are tons of cute hideouts which is a huge bonus for some people

For food for any species I'd recommend Higgins brand.For Syrians and robos,the Sunburst Hamster and Gerbil one is really good but for any diabetic prone species there is another one which is Vita Garden and the Vita Garden one just has a bit less protein and no fruit which is good for diabetic hamsters.However,either one would need protein supplementation and for that I'd go with Mazuri Rat and Mouse lab blocks.Both of these can be found at Petco at around 10 dollars a bag,and both combined last no less than 2-3 months if not probably more for a robo so even if it costs more initially it's extremely cheap for how long it lasts.

I have syrians and roborovskis. The longhaired syrian boys are all very laid back and easy to interact with, my short haired syrian girl is sooo active and will let me pick her up no probs. They all love tunnels (rzt sized), platforms, their wheels and sputniks.

My two roborovskis love their wheels and like to have plenty of hiding places to whizz to. The are quick to vanish if they see me but are happy to sit and eat or wash if i chat to them from afar!

I love having robos cos of their cuteness and their small cage accessories which make it easy to give them lots to do. They are very active and need as much space as a syrian imo.

Just to add, if you've never owned a robo it might be a good experience to adopt one. I forgot to mention is all the cute things you can put in their cages & they do require less space I feel in addition to Amity too although a 50 gal tank would also be plenty big for a Syrian too. Robos are fun in my experience! Hope I didn't discourage you in any way last night?

I'm also starting to collect items for a possible Syrian in 2-3 years from now. Both species are great! Have fun tossing the idea around. If you have an empty tank don't visit the pet stores on a regular basis or you might end up with one sooner than you think

lol you didn't discourage me cinnamon bear, and thank you all for helping me out. I dont have the space for another cage at the moment so I thought it would be smart to learn more about both species. The only thing im wondering is how to adopt a hammy. I wouldn't know where to go to do that
