Re: Questions on Robos
I meant adopting as in purchasing an animal or even to consider rescuing one. The SPCA comes across hamsters w/o a home or Pet-Co & Pet Smart have animals that people have brought in for various reasons, although healthy or they wouldn't be able to adopt them out.
Pet-Co works with the SPCA so sometimes you can find animals their owners have surrendered at their stores & 100% of the money goes to the SPCA.
Also you can go on-line to adoptapet.com & there are other rescue organizations as well throughout the country.
Hope this helps,

Re: Questions on Robos
I forgot to say that Pet-Co when they have animals up for adoption, they are sold by donation only, usually you can find bonded pairs this way too if you were interested in that? But they ask for a minimum of $5.00per animal in my county anyways

Re: Questions on Robos
No problem, also I might have told you but my favorite dog in the world is a Jack Russell Terrier named Milo, I've been around him for the past 8 years. He has a cancerous tumor and doesn't have much time left unfortunately.
Anyways, glad I could help!

When you go into a petstore, don't be afraid to ask questions. Just ask, "Do you have any animals up for adoption right now?" Sometimes a litter will be born after the store gets their hamsters if they keep females, or a hamster of the opposite breed that store keeps will get mixed in by accident and has been discovered. There were about 4 hamsters up for adoption at my location petstore, 3 of them.males (this is a female only store) and they didn't want to sell them because they had been there a while so they were adopting them out) adoptions are usually free. Cujo was an adoption, and my new winter white was also an adoption. Just ask. I have found that some of the most important questions to ask when adopting are, how long have you (the store) had the hamster? How long has (s)he been up for adoption? Why is (s)he up for adoption? Is (s)he sick, handicapped, or otherwise need any kind of special attention? Sometimes a store will adopt an animal out if it's simply too agressive to sell so that is a *VERY* important question to ask. As well as, how much is it to adopt? Is there an adoption fee?
Now, a good petstore will be ready and willing to answer ALL of these questions, and more, and may even provide you with a background of the animal.
With adoptions, check the hamster over yourself, scoop them up in the house if you can't touch them or they are too skittish, something see through on the bottom, make sure there aren't any unusual lumps, bumps, raw or red patches, swelling or discharge that is unusual. Make sure they are in otherwise good health. When I adopted cujo, I had to check his tummy because he had to have stitches from when he had been attacked and had to make sure he finished healing okay. Gather as much information about that animal as you can.
Spend time with them, if you can, spend a little bit of time with them. Try to gauge their personality if you can. Figure out, is this animal right for me?
Go for it if it's right for you!!!!
I hope this helps.

Re: Questions on Robos
I just got a bonded pair of Robos. Ive never had Robos before, and they have shown no agression at all. I don't need to handle them; I've always been content just watching them, but these Robos are almost painful to watch. I'm still trying to understand them and I'm worried that they're not happy. With other hams, you can tell they're happy if they're calm, and they go through the whole spectrum of behavior without any neuroses (bar chewing, trying to escape, etc.) These Robos run around the cage in repeating patterns.... really fast. They even "hop" mid-run. They have lots of space, a sand bath, two wheels (but they both insist on using the same one), lots of soft paper bedding to dig in (but neither is a digger)...
If this was a Syrian habitat, people would call him spoiled. But these Robos act as if they need a richer environment. I think, anyway, I don't know!!!! Never had Robos before! !!
The "hopping" mid-run bothers me a lot. I don't want them to be stressed. But maybe they're just high on life?
I call them "crack babies" because they're constantly on warp drive.
