Question Nervous about hair dying!

Hello everyone! I haven't been on this forum since last year wow. But i'm back now because I need some advice because I don't know where else to go for advice and everyone on here is very helpful and lovely

So basically, I really want to dye my hair brown. I am a natrual blonde and have never dyed my hair btw. But the thing is, two girls (who are best friends) in some of my school classes recently dyed their hair the colour I want my hair. I'm afraid that people will think I'm copying them because they are popular girls and all that. But I have been wanting and thinking about going brown for AGES. I just don't know what to do. I'm also afraid people won't like it or will judge me idk.

All help/advice is appreciated Xx

Don't do it! You'll regret it! If anything get blonde highlights and go lighter, especially for the summer! I have dyed my hair darker in my younger years & each time I regretted it. When it starts growing out & you want to go back to your natural color will be a long process if you have long hair. If your light completed NEVER go darker!

If this is something you've thought about for awhile then i'd say go ahead and do it but please be aware it might not end up being exactly like how you want it and like Cinnamon Bear has said, getting your natural hair colour back will be extremely hard/impossible. I wouldn't worry about what others may think because if dyeing your hair will make you happy then other people are irrelevant imo, i've been dyeing my hair for 3 years now and although i feared being judged the first time i dyed it now i dont care about anyone's opinion other than my own :3

Personally I went through a phase in high school and college where I'd dye my hair darker, Naturally I've got a medium brown with a reddish cast to it in the light. The thing is when you go darker as Cinnamon pointed out, to get the color out you either have to pay a stylist (last time I had them do mine it wound up being over 150 us) or let it grow out, and if you do the second there's a clear stripe all the way around your head.

They do make temporary hair color which might be something worth trying out if you aren't sure whether or not you will like it.

In the end as secret put it do what is going to make you happy, chances are you won't keep up with the ones who would judge you anyway once your out of school. People will say whatever they want to regardless of the truth, as long as you are confident in yourself that's the only thing that really matters.

As a hairdresser, my advice would be go to a hairdresser. Even if it's just for a consultation to start with. They will advise you if the shade you want will suit you and the cost of the upkeep. If you were my client and I thought it would suit you but you were nervous, I'd advise you to go darker gradually by having some lowlights added and build it up from there. Or maybe some darker lowlights on the underneath half of your hair for a funky look. The regrowth is less noticable this way too.
If you went with an all over colour. Light regrow with darker hair can look weirder than dark regroth on dyed blonde hair so be prepared to keep getting the roots touched up.
Don't be tempted to do it yourself with a home box colour to save money, you can spend much more money in the long run trying to correct it at the hairdressers. Brown on blonde needs a little warmth to not go flat and khaki coloured but not too much or it grabs and goes reddish. A hairdresser will custom blend this for you, box colours are unpredictable. Even if you think temporary colour, go to a hairdresser. There are different types of temp colours that behave in different ways. Some "stain" the hair and can really grab which can be hard to get rid of from blonde hair.
Speak to a professional, take some pictures of the sort of colour you'd like when you go for a chat and then have a good think about it before you commit.

I know it sounds odd but for a full style change, go into a wig shop or get one of those apps that changes your hair colour. Although it won't be the exact colour it will give you an idea if you will like it, it can be difficult to get brown out of blonde after if you don't like it.
But sometimes a big change can be great so I would say go for it, don't worry what people think if you like it

Like Velma was saying if you do decide to color your hair darker definitely don't do it from a box yourself. The brown has reddish undertones on blonde hair & then it turns bronze.

A hairdresser, a good one will put color on it then a toner to get rid of the red (I believe). Velma had a good idea in getting low lights. High lights & low lights are pretty together.

Another thing to consider is that if you do a full color or do any low lights at all prepare to only use color safe shampoo & conditioner so it can be an added expense!

Personally I wouldn't do it. You won't be able to go back to your natural colour if you wanted to, you'd have to grow it out (which takes years), or strip and bleach it - which will really damage your hair.

Blonde is beautiful. I'm a brunette, and I've always loved the look of blonde hair on people. I say keep it and be individual

I dyed my dark brown hair blonde for years. It was great. I also dyed it black for a while.

As long as you are prepared to risk having a colour that is different from the one you want and are up for having cut if necessary then go for it.

Velmas advice is good.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

I'm with Winnie - I wouldn't do it. I hate the idea of all those nasty chemicals. If you do, I would use an organic one or go to the hairdressers and ask for an organic one.
