You could just say you have found some great shelving and it's the right size to fit cages on as well and you'd like to go ahead and get it. Show it to him first maybe. I don't see what objection he should have to shelves that will fit Alaska cages unless he is just being difficult!

Yeah I'd want to get that one cause then his hamsters could fit too, without there being too much space leftover. The bottom shelf I would probably use for hamster/rat supplies!
He's one of those people who doesnt see why hamsters need lots of space. Like I said, he has hamsters of his own, but keeps them in petshop sized cages. He thinks Flumps and Hugo's cages are far too big for them.

Re: Possibly moving... with 16 animals...
If you manage to get the shelving to fit everything (which I really hope you do, I think it's a good solution) how do you think he would react to a present of 2 Alaska cages for his hamsters? You could blame it on being a girl and needing everything to match

I think he would flip! Hahha!
But its a really good idea!!!
I think once I have Hugos and Flump's cages there, I should mention about his cages not matching and see what he says

Lol! I will have to remember that one! I'm a girl - I need everything matching.

If your Bf is funny about your choice of shelving unit, you could just say "It's just a shelving unit - it looks nice, doesn't cost too much and the cages will fit on it. It's especially for men because it's chrome" lol.

Hopefully it will all go well when I show him!
It does look really nice and the room is going to be black and white, so it would definitely fit in nicely.
I have money saved up for furnature so hopefully he will let me buy the shelving unit!

Well if you're paying for it I can't see how he can object. It's a way to fit all your hamster cages into the space available so you don't have to rehome them - which to my mind would be horribly unfair if you've come up with a practical solution to the problem.

Honestly I'd say get rid of the boyfriend if he objects >.> (kidding)
I don't know if he's one for research or not, but you could point out the fact that wild hamsters travel for miles each night, and some are prone to health issues if the size isn't big enough. A bigger cage is way cheaper in the long run than vet bills due to damaged teeth or other conditions that might arise. The matching Alaska's sound cute too.

Re: Possibly moving... with 16 animals...
If he's as stubborn as my other half, and thinks he knows best, then the next option might be do a deal Eg - ok you can have xyz if I can have this shelf unit for my Alaska cages. How's that for a deal? You gain on shelving for your hamsters, the room looks super cool, it only costs £65 and on top of that you get xyz as well.
