Default Ovens

Urgh I hate cleaning ovens. At the moment I have a mysterious rather strong smell from mine. I have used this oven for over 10 years and am careful to never leave a dirty oven pan in it in case the oven is turned on with it in. As a result I've only ever had to do minor cleans and keep on top of it and it never smells bad.

Yesterday we decided to have tea and scones, so I made some scones, washed the oven pan first but a horrible smell of burning fat has pervaded the room (the kitchen is at the far end of the living room - open plan) - and still there this morning. I am confused as to why! But the result is - I am going to have to scrub that oven.

Secretly I am blaming other half who sometimes shuts the oven door when I've left it open and I leave it open to remind me the oven pan needs washing after cooking meat or whatever. But even so it is still strange as I haven't done that much cooking recently and the oven pan was clean before we baked the scones. Maybe I should look down the back lol.

Anyway - I detest cleaning ovens!

I think it's one that will just keep smelling if not cleaned off. Thing that confuses me is what it is and where it's coming from! It's only a small oven and I haven't cooked anything fatty in it recently - tend to use the rings.

That's a strange one, you need to find where it's coming from, there could be a bit in the oven that is hard to reach when cleaning.
You've put me in the mood to clean my oven, I'm like you, I always clean after use but minimal cleaning needed. I just bought all new cooking trays. I've been using the same cooker for 20 years.
What do you clean it with? I use the dettol odourless spray and wipes. I've found that some oven cleaners are very strong in smell.

Good question! As I don't normally need to do full oven cleans I don't know lol. You're right, I don't like strong oven cleaners. In the past I've just used jif and a scourer - hard work! Well I didn't do it yesterday and needed to use the grill to cook some home made burgers yesterday and hoped that would help sort it ha ha. It didn't smell while using the grill, possibly because the door was open and just using the top element so all I can think is something has spilled onto the floor of the oven, so I'll just scrub that bit and see if it improves.

Lots of people have recommended cleaning an oven with sodium bicarbonate and white vinegar. Should be able to find some tutotials online. Apparently relatively pain free
