how to resist?!
So, with enormous willpower I managed to get out of pets@home yesterday without buying aSyrian hamster! There was one that I desperately wanted, older than the other babies who was curled up with his/her nose tucked into his belly right in the corner of his glass box. Like he as saying just let me sleep, will you? He looked like he needed somewhere dark to sleep! He was such a beautiful palest cream and white banded, a real sweetie. I would never buy a ham from a a pet shop like p@h unless it was an adoption ham but it was very hard to walk past him ! Maybe he will end up in the adoption section, I may have to go back a couple of times and check, ha 😊

Re: how to resist?!
How to resist? I have no idea lol!
I rarely get to P@H so don't get tempted too often, last time was Aug '14 & I was looking in adoption for a Russian to give a home to, they didn't have any so of course I couldn't help having a quick look at the Russians for sale on the way out... I totally fell for Ickle Mickle on the spot & no way I could leave her there even if I did feel a tad guilty for not adopting!
I just think we end up with the hams we're meant to have one way or another, that's my excuse anyway

Re: how to resist?!
If I go in I always have to have a look. If I could I would take them all home! I have gotten all my hams from Pets at Home but I would like to rescue. I have seem that they have 2 tanks at the back for adoption so when it is the right time for another Syrian I will have a look there. I don't know of any rescue centres or breeders in my area. I might ask on here in the future when I do decide to get another.

Husband, lol. I'd have so many animals if not for his reasonable self! But, financially, space wise, time wise, etc. Evie is meant to be an only child for now.

Re: how to resist?!
My last hamster was a cream banded syrian.
She lived in a rabbit hutch and was very lively!!!

Re: how to resist?!
I saw a dwarf and a Syrian a few weeks ago and would have adopted either of them but I don't have a cage (I won't get a cage at p@h as they are too small, even the rat cage they had was too small). They have both gone and I hope they are in good homes.
Today there is another Syrian and two robos. One of the robos is called Minerva. I had considered that name if my next hamster is a female.

Re: how to resist?!
I agree cypher, we end up with the pets that are meant for us! I just have to keep pinching myself and talk about space for cages, and energy, and time.... It's much easier just having 2 little boys to look after but I miss having a Syrian so much! I'm trying to focus on making a fuss of them but dwarfs don't seem to need you like Syrians!
Cmb you are as bad as me, you remember all the hams you've seen! So do I and I remember all the ones I've seen on gumtree too and their stories. I nearly adopted a chocolate Syrian off gumtree before Christmas but it would have been insanity and luckily I managed not to!
FF your little hamster looks so funny and sweet sitting in her enormous hutch! Good idea for a lively one
The problem I have round here is that p@h is right next to Sainsbury's.... Oh dear....

Re: how to resist?!
I still think about the lovely girls i saw in our local petshop. One was chocolate with white paws and the other was mainly white with a white blaze and orange markings ...
Four set ups will do though!

I have an empty cage I wouldn't dare get another one though - not yet anyway

Re: how to resist?!
I remember thinking that I needed to be banned from pet shops after my Meat crossed the bridge as I literally wanted to buy every hamster I set eyes on at one point. In the end I was able to resist the temptation and got a lovely Chinese boy from a breeder which was what I knew I wanted.
Sometimes I don't think that we pick the hamsters, they pick us and when you find the right one you just know it. When I got May, I wouldn't say that I planned to get her as quickly as I did but I just couldn't resist when I saw her and I do think that her and I were 'meant to be'
