animal issues
So where i live it has been getting very cold and i have two pets a beagle named pebbles and my hamster milo. Now i got milo just over a month ago and has become pretty tame while pebbles (my dog) is about 8 years old. Now here is my issue/situation, Milo stays in my room and due to how cold it has been getting recently my family has decided to let my dog to sleep indoors. Now these two have never met before and i don't plan on introducing them afraid of what could happen (not that pebbles is anywhere near a vicious dog but i don't want things to go bad). But since pebbles has been allowed to live indoors i think she has started to catch on to the fact that pebbles lives in doors and is looking for milo she has been trying to sniff him out and i suppose catch him but luckily he is high enough up where pebbles would have no chance of getting him. But whenever milo does here pebbles he starts to shake and doesn't move. I wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else and if so if they have any tips on what to do. I have tried to simply kick pebbles out of my room but she goes crazy and scratches my door while sniffing vigorously. So whether she is in the room or not you can definitely hear her. ill add some photos of the two of them just for fun . But yea any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: animal issues
It sounds like totally natural behaviour for both of them being predator & prey animals, Pebbles doesn't have to be a vicious dog for you to be worried, both have natural instincts & Milo will be able to smell Pebbles as well as hear her which is probably more of a problem.
I would definitely keep your door closed & Pebbles out at all times & teach her that scratching at the door isn't a behaviour that will be rewarded in any way, it may take a bit of patience on your part but she should learn.
They both look lovely btw.

Re: animal issues
Milo is so cute! But yes, dogs need to have boundaries or they will exploit that behaviour. You need to keep the dog locked out of the hamster room unless you can be there to supervise and only when Milo is not out of his cage for play. It`s just too unpredictable having a dog sat there watching a small furry animal run around or be allowed to peer into the cage. he should be told to back away every time he seems interested in the cage . It cold prove fatal if one bite or a paw meets with Milo and the last thing you want is a badly injured hamster, so the answer is simple. Keep the dog out. x

Re: animal issues
I'm not saying to let them together unsupervised or without a barrier between them, but your dog may surprise you. My beagle was VERY interested in my guineapigs.... But not in a hunting way at all, I think he thought they were puppies and he loved them xD still, they only got to see each other while separated with a 3ft tall playpen. He may just be genuinely curious and once he can crack the mystery, he may be content!

Re: animal issues
thank you all for the nice comments and replies. pebbles and milo can't necessarily communicate even if they are in the same room milos cage is too high up for pebbles to reach or notice even when she is standing on her legs but either way I feel like it causes milo stress for her to be in the same place as him so i have to kick pebbles out of my room when she roams around the house. But at the same time i feel like milo can see pebbles and thats also what scares him since she sees a random animal walking around sniffing for presumably him but nonetheless i do try to keep them seperated and i think pebbles is getting the hint that she cant be in my room.
