Re: Upsetting free ad
That's so nice of you Liz. I hope they do take the offer. The hamsters will be very well cared for at the rescue.

Re: Upsetting free ad
Brilliant - do say what happens. If she wants £24 I'll pay the extra £4 if you tell me how to do it! (Didn't you say she wanted £12 each?)

Re: Upsetting free ad
How kind of you, though the ad says £10 each sorry if I posted £12 earlier. I believe the rescue is waiting to hear back about the address and is poorly at the moment, so can't travel to get them yet and I haven't sent the money yet. Hopefully should be going ahead though

Re: Upsetting free ad
I've started to take in any that I see in this situation (a bit time-consuming around uni but it's worth it!) and buying them bigger wheels and bigger cages (student budget, so usually second hand from ebay and gumtree etc) or bin cages. They don't always end up with Alaskas/ Hamster Heavens, but I know that they are better off than in their previous home, and I do the best that I can for them whilst finding them a new home. In the past I have posted them on Gumtree/ Preloved but I never, ever give them away for free (usually about £25 to cover the cost of the cage/ food/ vets etc)- the money always goes to helping the next poor ham. I've found that local shelters and vets can also be helpful, even if they won't take them in they will sometimes post them on their website or Facebook page. Don't be disheartened by the fact that you may not be able to give them the biggest cages etc, as long as you care for them properly and try to find them loving new homes then you can be content that they are better off. It's really lovely (and quite entertaining) watching a hamster use a proper wheel for the first time and watching them come out of their shells as they are properly looked after really makes it worth it x

Re: Upsetting free ad
Your a star Lozz. And your right. It`s not always about big cages and being worried about having the right accessories. It`s about giving them peace, love and a half decent life. A few hamsters offered on websites will be genuinely looking for a nice new home, but most are just looking for the `get rid` option.
Any updates on the original £20 hamster? x

Re: Upsetting free ad
I'm sorry I haven't updated this, unfortunately the owner didn't get back to the rescue or me as I then messaged him/her saying I was interested and I checked the adverts shortly after and they had gone. So I hope they ended up in better homes
