Keeping the aviary on the ground!!

Big Scottish storms are coming as I've heard (eek!!) and I'm concerned about my rabbit aviary blowing away I would be gutted if it does as it was hard to find, build and pay for! Anyways just heard a storm is coming tomorrow and I am not prepared for this.

The aviary is built by my not-so-good-at-DIY- stepdad and I'm scared it will be too delicate and flimbsy and will either break or fly away and I really can't afford to buy another aviary :/ (and I also can't afford the repair of my or my neighbours fences if a massive aviary smashed into them haha)

Do not worry about the rabbits, they will be obviously moved indoors but I wan't to protect my aviary.

What's it made from & what's it sat on? Could you rig up some guy ropes, like a tent & peg the thing down? Or is there anywhere you could move it to, against a wall & strap it to that?

Its made from wood if that's what you mean. I don't have any peg things but I will try to move it against the fence and wall. Thanks velma x

You could make some pegs. All you really need are some sturdy stakes with notches at the ends. One to keep the rope from slipping off and one to act like an anchor in the soil and prevent it being pulled out as easily!

The winds are predicted to be up to 90mph, you'll, have to baton down the aviary pretty well! Good luck and stay safe.

It was massively heavy and couldn't move it myself but the winds weren't as bad where I stay and everything was okay but I sure will go out and get some pegs for future use. Just glad the aviary wasn't destroyed

Phew! Good to know! I've been thinking about you & the aviary. Even down south it's been pretty fierce. Even a mighty storm does not fear the wrath of HC by uprooting an aviary!

We've had some doozy storms on our side of globe, too! We've lost power a few times but luckily only briefly. Lots of branches came down on the roads though and other people further up the island did lose power for a significant length of time.

Scargirl, Unfortunately the aviary is pretty big, 7x10ft to be exact and extremely heavy and I don't have enough space in my house. Thanks though.
