They don't believe that I need help.
There is a task that I am having trouble understanding. I've told this person that I need help and that I would like to practice it so I can understand it. This person thinks I'm making a big deal about it. It's to the point where they simply don't believe me and think I'm being ridiculous about it. I on the other hand feel very disappointed and angry at this person because I feel like they are being to stubborn to accept that I might actually need and benefit from their help.
So I don't know what to do. I've already opened myself up so I can sincerely explain the situation to this person and it's just been for nothing because no matter how honest and sincere I am, this person just refuses to believe me.
They make me feel like I'm purposely being whiny and just complaining or that I'm just saying that because I'm giving up.
So at this point, I just don't know what to say to this person or what to do.

Is this a work based situation? I understand if you don't want to be too specific but can you give a rough indication of what it is? It might help come up with a strategy

It's not something that's happening at work. It's a math based subject.

At college? Is it a tutor that's being difficult or a friend? I'd say you're obviously getting nowhere with this particular person so we need to work out who else you could ask for help? Is there any resources you can look at? Maybe one of the maths bods on here might be able to help you too?

Well that's just ridiculous, practise is exactly how you get better at mathy stuff! That's why maths books are filled with worked examples??? That's how you learn???
Agreeing with Velma, you need to go above or around this unhelpful lazy person.

Re: They don't believe that I need help.
some people will just never understand things, they either don't have the capacity to see things from another's point of view, or they can't be bothered or don't want to for some reason. It's a pain if you can't escape them. Hopefully in your situation there will be a way of bypassing them to get what you need but be careful of going over their heads if they are in authority over you... people dont' like that one bit and it may come back on you. Good luck...

Thank you. I am going to look for help elsewhere. I wouldn't be getting in trouble for doing so. I was just so shocked about it I just thought that it was unbelievable for someone to react this way when someone is asking you for help.

Depending on the math level and type, there are bound to be people around here who can maybe point you in the right direction. My roommate has a degree in mathematical physics and can even remember some of it!

Re: They don't believe that I need help.
Have you considered that they actually might not be able to help you? They might not understand it themselves? If I were you I'd look for help elsewhere rather than banging your head against a brick wall!
