Default Is it to much to ask.....

Is it too much to expect dog owners to clean up after their dogs?
This morning I watched a guy let his dog poo on the pavement and walk away, I've seen this guy do this a few times now and the reason I never said anything before was because he's over 60 and I've always been brought up to show respect to older people.
But, today I'd had enough, I asked him politely to clear up his dog's mess and I got a mouthful of abuse. He actually said it wasn't him lol! I told him I'd seen him and it wasn't the first time but he walked away giving the finger.
I was speechless and shocked.
I know that majority of dog owners do clean up after their pets but, I'm fed up seeing dog poo on the pavements and having to walk around the mess.

Anybody else having this problem?

It is pretty frustrating - I've seen neighborhoods with so many dog owners that don't pick up after their animal that I swear walking in the area is a health hazard.

Here in the USA you can be fined if you don't pick up after your animal - but it's one of those laws that isn't enforced, and would be difficult to prove if you're accusing someone of it.

Do you know where this guy lives? You might consider picking up after his dog and simply leaving it at his front door. Then he might step in it and realize the unpleasantness he is creating for other people by not begin a responsible pet owner, and he'd have to remove it - that would be justice IMO

Again, I'm not sure if it would be the same in your area of the world, but if he lives in an apartment complex, etc, you might be able to contact the land lord and let them know that's going on - they might talk to them about it (or have the police talk with him about it), or give him a warning about either picking up after his animal, or not being able to keep the dog on the premises.

A woman with a very loud, and aggressive dog was forced to move out, or get rid of her dog in the apartment complex down the street from me (she ended up moving out) - the dog barked at everyone that went by (car, person, etc). It was really obnoxious, and she would leave him tied up outside her door on a long lead; people trying to walk on the sidewalk past him had to cross the street because he could easily reach the side walk, and was very aggressive - he attacked my small dog when my father was visiting and took him out for a walk.

Very sorry to hear about the guy being that rude to you for politely confronting him about it - I'd say at that point you gave the guy a chance, and should feel free to try one of the other methods I've suggested if he's not going to respond to civil discourse.

He lives in the flats round the corner from me, don't know which one though.
I remember when the scoop your dogs poo or face a fine, came into action here, the council provided more bins and doggy poo bags and they even had people out and about giving fines if dog owners didn't clear up. Neighbours would report others for it and they would be fined. What with council cuts and people not wanting to get involved, the state of our streets has declined. I honestly can't remember the last time I managed to walk on the pavement poo free.
I'm just going to make sure I've got my camera app on my phone switched on the next time I go near the street where the guy takes his dog. I love dogs, and I know if I had a dog, I would clear up its mess.
People can be so ignorant.
A few years back there was a neighbour in the street who let their dog poo at the close entrance and I ended up stepping in it and I phoned up the factor and reported it, they dealt with if as several of us complained and that person cleaned up .
That woman that lived down the street from you, what a nightmare!

How rude! He had no right to be so abusive. I am a dog owner I get frustrated seeing these things happen. It's not that hard to pick up after your pet, and I always have bags attached to Tala's leash. So sorry for your experience, not all of us dog owner are like that.

I see plenty dog owners with the bags and cleaning up, sometimes the expressions on their faces when they do can be amusing.

I hate that it gives all dog owners a bad name and makes all dogs unwelcome. However that fella sounds like bad trouble and I would be concerned about annoying him unfortunately. He'll probably p-off the wrong person soon enough given his charms and that will take care of him. Maybe get some of that dog repellant at the pet shop or garden shop and see if it discourages them from your area.

I hate ignorant dog owners. I'm often asked to look after peoples pets while their away and when I walk dogs I always make sure I'm carrying poo bags but often have arguments with people not paying attention to where their dog is and when they are going to the toilet. I've found that a lot of the owners that don't pick up have little dog handling skills too and can't get their dog back if off the lead when there is a problem. In the town I live there's quite often dog fights or dogs that have run off or been hurt on barbed wire when the owrer let their dog free roam. Somtimes I feel scared by the more intimidating dogs off the lead as show aggressive behavior even to people. Many dog owners think it's ok to leave dog poo on a beach too but it's still illegal. Just wish people would see the risks and be responsible

It is against the law to not clear up after a dog. Pure and simple he is breaking the law. Report him to the local dog warden. They can and will fine him. If you can get a picture all the better.
North Lanarkshire Council - Dog fouling
If that isn't the right link then your local council website will have a similar place where you can anonymously report dog fouling.

Everything piece of clothing I own has plastic bags in the pockets LOL.
Every exit from the house has a roll of plastic bags within reach LOL.
Poo clean up tip: Stand upwind.
Dog training tip: Be happy your pooch has pooed and praise her. Say "What a lovely poo! Thank you" and never make unhappy noises when picking it up. (Same for cleaning cat boxes FYI) Your pet watches everything you do.

I came very close one day to going to work with a bag of poo in my jacket pocket

LOL , not really funny but I would have handled the whole situation a bit differently myself, but I'm me. I would have gone out with a camera and a plastic bag. I would have went to him and said"Oh my do you have a baggie to clean up your dogs droppings? Here, I have and extra bag as I too have a dog and know how we sometimes forget to bring a bag to follow the laws. Would you like me to hold your dog while you clean up?"

Not many would be able to refuse the bag and not pick up after their dog and in this mans case would most likely avoid your area if he did choose to refuse to stoop and scoop. Being and older person it also makes me wonder if it pains him to bend to pick up a poop pile.

However now all you can do is report him to the proper authorities to prevent more dirty walk ways, or just except he will continue to do what he is doing.
