Default Astrex Mice Pictures

I had a request to post some pictures of my astrex mice, so here you go:

This is the male I had just after I got him, he was about 5 weeks old here (the other mouse is a hairless):

Unfortunetely this little guy didnt last long. He developed skin problems and passed away

This is the female Annabelle, she is a blue mismarked astrex:

This is a great shot of her scruffy coat:

Anna was mated with a black-tan smooth coated male who carried the colourpoint gene.

And now for the babies, so cute with no hair!

The curl appears quite suddenly around the itme that they eyes open:

They look like they have been attacked with the crimpers!!!

I dont have this lot anymore though. I had a run of bad luck with the mice and it kinda put me off a bit even though I used to breed them when at college. Plus I simply didnt have the time to give them the attention they needed. So mummy and two of her daughters are now living with a friend, four colourpoint astrex males went to stud and the rest live with friends/fmaily. Its nice as I still get to see them or get emailed updates.

Beautiful mice. A recommended pet if you have the time to play with them.

Aw some of those pics are lovely. Are these the equivalent of rex in mice then? (I know the gene is present in hamsters, guineapigs, rats, rabbits, although presents slightly differently in each?) I know very little about the mouse fancy

Did you find the "mouse smell" a problem?

No, there is a rex gene too. I don't know about mice colours/coat patterns myself, they ones I have bred I have done so for pet only. The way I understand it is that astrex is a mouse with one rex gene and a rex has two rex genes. Though I could be totally wrong on that! I do know that the rex coat is curlier and the curls last longer. You find with the astrex that the curls drop out over time and the mouse just looks 'scruffy'.

Mouse smell isn't a problem once you get into a cleaning routine. They do smell more than hamsters, especially the males. The need regular cleaning, but not thorough cleans. If you scrub a male tank so it is spotless, they will scent mark it which stinks! So regular little cleans works a treat.

these guys are fantastic! I've never seen astrex in the flesh, just one pet-quality rex. Show quality ones would be great to breed.

no, the tail thing just freaks me out. My friend used to keep rats, and I'd just freak if ione got near me. I stay away from gerbils and mice too. It didnt help that her rats had warts on their tails, eww, I'm shivering just thinking about it
