Good question I don't know! Pardon the question but is it smelly and does it rub off? (Never had one). I'd be inclined to wait a couple of days at least for what ever soaks in to soak in and what ever washes of to wash off. Aside from licking you my concern is he will get it on his feet and then lick his feet while grooming. Maybe ask a vet? What are the ingredients?
It doesn't really smell of anything after the first day, and it doesn't rub off, I have to like scrub it off after a week or two. I don't know the ingredients really? I got St Tropez done in the beauty salon near my house.
I could wear a glove to be safe maybe?
