Advice about college :3
Hey guys, i need your opinions!
SO, i think i need to leave college
Im not very well at the moment and the doctors are no closer to diagnosing me but im feeling worse, and im struggling to even go in for one lessons. Ive already droppped from 4 A levels to 2 and i cant drop any more and im only coping with 1 lesson a week and its not working so i dont want to tire myself out just to fail at the end of the year.
So i think i might drop out and try again next year when i feel better..
Thoughts? :3 im struggling to make a decision xD i just dont want to give up

Re: Advice about college :3
Dunno about the UK system, but when I felt continuing in a school year was futile, I was allowed a leave of absence with no penalty. Ended up going back about three years later and it made a world of difference.
If you need the time, take it. They should have something like what I did in the US. Even scholarships and financial aid got put on hold and not lost or taken away
If it works out like that, you lose nothing, but gain some time to be in a better situation for full time studies.....keep us posted

Re: Advice about college :3
I found it better than the non productive cycle/life issues causing me to fail out a semester or a year. This way, it was as if I hadn't started my second year. It wasn't giving up , it was really taking a break and not wasting effort and money...and I went back. Actually changed Uni and found it to be the all around right decision. So if it's fear of failure holding you back? Its not failure. Its a strategic use of time/energy and purpose....shouldn't make you slog through a bad semester cuz it 'feels' like failure

Re: Advice about college :3
Your college should have counsellors who will be able to give you the practical as well as emotional support you need right now. They will be able to advise you if you are able to study elements of your course as distance learning so you can carry on studying, if it's what you want to do. Obviously, your health comes first & it is important you are enjoying what you study & the whole college environment but I think if you are able, it is good to have something to focus on. Be it college or a regular hobby. Often with illness, physical or mental (& long term ongoing physical illness can result in mental illness) it helps to have something to distract yourself with. I think it can be easy for some people to let their illness define them as a person rather than just be something they suffer from. Remember, even big life altering illness is just a corner of who you are, the rest of you is capable of being brilliant.

Re: Advice about college :3
It does sound like it might be better to take a year off - or suspend this year and go back next year. Frustrating, but if you are over-stretching yourself at the moment it does sound like the best thing. I am sure your college will be supportive whatever you decide. I know at University they can give you extra time to complete things - but maybe 'A' levels have stricter deadlines. Have you spoken to your course tutor to ask what the options are. I think you've hit the nail on the head though. Trying to keep going is making you worse. So don't - your health is the most important thing and yes there are all kinds of part-time or occasional voluntary things you can do.
Also time out means you can read up on things at leisure without the pressure of deadlines, so when you go back you are well prepared (and well read!). There were a couple of people, when I was doing English Lit at University, who had read absolutely everything (just about!) before they even started University - they had a huge advantage and it also made their degrees a lot easier because they had more time for research.

Re: Advice about college :3
What is maybe more of an issue at the moment though is, you are unwell and the Doctors haven't found a diagnosis. Would you feel able to tell us your symptoms? I'm an ex nurse and have also had a number of 'undiagnosed' health problems myself over the years. An awful lot of conditions aren't black and white and many can be something like a dietary problem or an unusual viral condition. I was unwell for many years without a diagnosis, and it was only when I got really bad I noticed I was worse after eating. Saw a very specialised Specialist who put me on a diet. Turns out I was allergic to wheat, gluten and yeast. Bread basically! I haven't eaten bread for 20 years and the difference was amazing! My asthma and eczema virtually disappeared - now they are very mild. But the worst symptoms were lethargy and exhaustion which are more chronic symptoms. It's important to get a diagnosis though, if it is some viral infection, so don't be afraid to ask to see a specialist - GP's are quite limited sometimes.

Re: Advice about college :3
Thanks x
Well i have auto immine graves disease (hyper thyroid) And about 9 months ago i had my thyroid removed. Basically i havent recovered like i was supposed to, i got better for a month or so (other than a few symptoms which are still going now) but then i just got worse and ive been getting worse since then.
My doctors dont think its thyroid related any more, but they dont know what it is x
Bascially, i have hair loss, headaches, extreme fatigue to the point i cant brush my hair in one go as i cant hold my arms up for that long etc. They've given my a diagnosis of 'chronic joint pain/fibromialgia' until they find another one that explains my other symptoms, insomnia, my throat randomly closes up at night, and for the last year and a half every 3/4 weeks ive been getting the same cold/flu which lasts about 2 weeks. And im just really weak, i cant think or consentrate and my eyes and ears are sensitive to light and sound x
thankyou x
