Lightbulb Shall I start a YouTube?

Hi guys!
I just have a question.
Should I start a YouTube? I am still self deciding if I will have enough time, considering school. I also have a feeling people will judge since I am only housing one hamster at the time, and thinking that I have no knowledge at all and considered a "newbie". And if i don't have enough "knowledge" to give advice, I would at least like to vlog a bit. Any tips on how to start a channel if starting a channel crosses my mind?
I really hope you guys had a nice day!

xx

I think giving out advice is risky, as you may think somthing is particularly the right way and find a bunch of people commenting that you're "wrong". Unless you turn off comments and ratings. lol I think just showing what you have is nice, without the advice tone, but you could teach by example, like showing a big cage, chews, big wheel, etc.

I actually think that is a really good idea. I think if I were ever were to start a channel, I would start giving out advice until I am completely sure that the advice i give is correct. I guess sorta like a "professional" lol.

I agree with Esmy in that you should show your cage, or toys, etc. If you are new at caring for hamsters, you still have a lot to learn before you can be giving out ideas for hamster care with confidence. I would suggest, if you haven't already, checking out HoppingHammy and Chocolatecolors26 on YouTube, to learn even more about hamsters.
You need to know what you are doing before you can start giving out any sort of advice to other people.
However, if you do decide to make a YouTube account, you could begin by, like I said previously, showing your cage and what you do to care for your hamsters (without telling others that that is what they should do as well). This could give people the opportunity to comment on your videos and give you advice on what you are doing well, and what things you could consider changing in your hamster care. This way you can learn even more about how to care for your hamsters, and still have fun making videos. However, don't forget that not everyone on YouTube is kind and considerate, and you would be bound to run in to people leaving nasty comments on your videos, that could be quite hurtful.
As for school, school comes first. If you do decide to make a YouTube account, make sure that it is not interfering with your school work. You do not want your grades to drop because you spend so much time on your YouTube videos. If you are not yet in college, you don't want to make it so that you cannot get into the school of your choice because your grades were lower than you wanted since you spent so much time on your videos. I'm not saying that this will for sure happen, but you need to be cautious when it comes to how many other commitments you have along with school. You need to make sure you can still balance your school work with the other commitments, such as a YouTube channel.
However, all in all, it's your choice whether you want to make a YouTube account.

I watched the video. music too loud after 5:30. Then I could not hear you very well. I thought it was a good vid. Especially for first time.
Youtube is a very good classroom. I have learned a lot on there. Things to make, repair, build, draw, and also as a refresher course from stuff I have forgotten in the past.

You pronounced syrian wrong though.

I like it!

I especially love the popsicle stick name tag you made for Stich. It's so colorful and adorable, and I love the little owl! Great touch!

One tip I have, like ianpallen, would be to turn down the music. I like that you have background music, because that certainly adds a good effect to videos, however, when it's too loud, the viewers can't hear the actual video. You don't want to pull attention away from the video by using background music. Instead, you want to make it very faint in the background to make the video more interesting than only you talking, however not have viewers focus on the music instead of what your trying to tell them in the video (does that make sense? I don't feel like I worded that very well).

Also, the lighting during the cage tour is wonderful! From what I've noticed, it's common for newer YouTubers to have poor lighting, which isn't something that is fun to watch.

You are also very confident in front of the camera, which is fantastic! That certainly makes it less awkward to watch than a video when people seem really unsure of what they are doing and saying. Keep up the good work!

Overall, I thought you did an excellent job!

I'm subscribing, by the way.

Some other thoughts are, instead of hiding your face (which is smart), I'd focus the camera on the cage or something hamster-related while talking. You could also add captions on the video to emphasize anything people might have missed you say. Regardless, have fun!

I agree! Focus on something else, like your hamster running around their cage.

I think there are always people on the internet and youtube who will find something to criticize, which is not nice to be on the receiving end of - but you could pre-empt that at the start of your video each time (and a written bit to go with it) saying, what you said to us - like a kind of introduction: that you are not a hamster expert but like to share your set up and experiences and hope it gives people some inspiration. If you get some idiot saying your cage is all wrong or something - just ignore it, because someone else will come along and stick up for you. Post - and ignore any naff comments.

It took me almost a day to set my channel up and I only did it because our little boy wanted to put his video of our hamster on Youtube. But then I had to set up a gmail account first as well. Then I thought I might as well do another one and did one on how to make easy loom bands - which is terrible quality! I have had no negative remarks on either video - no remarks at all in fact!

What is important is - if you would like to do it and enjoy talking about it and have something to say - it will come across well. Once you have the channel set up it's quite quick and easy to upload a new video each time, so maybe you could do the initial set up one week-end and then add videos when you have time.
