Default Chick Picture

Here is a picture of some of the 12 chicks that we got this weekend.Sorry, but I couldn't get a big picture with all of them-it appeared too fuzzy.

Default Chick chick chick little chicken

Oh wow - they are so tiny and fluffy looking

My little guys were a bit older than that I think and all the same colour, you seem to have different colours there

Yes they are different colors. We have 4 yellow chicks and the rest are gray with black stripes running down their backs. There is one that's my favorite, she is a mix between the 2 colors. They are also very small, about 3inches high when standing.Right now they still dont really have feathers, just fuzz.

Awwww so cute!

So what do you raise the chickens for, eggs, food, as pets, to eat ticks?

We raise them for tick eating purposes, 2 or 3 that lay eggs, and pretty-much their pets. I can feed them out of my hand, pet them, and some even let me pick them up!

That’s neat, we have tossed around the idea of getting some guinea hens, but since they are so small they would probably get picked off by coyotes, fishers and bobcats.. Foxes..

Apparently geese are also really great at getting rid of ticks, we have so many I hate it. We give our cats flea and tick medicine on their fur but it wears off pretty fast, like three weeks and we need to get more. Plus you can’t go for a nice walk in the woods without ticks crawling all over you.

I know what you mean Candace. It was TERRIBLE here before we got the chickens (2 years ago). Last year I didn't have any ticks crawling on me and our 2 dogs were tick free. The chickens really help out a lot.

Well I've never heard of this, using chickens for ticks. Learn something every day!
