Wow really? I guess it depends on the shrimp. I got feeder shrimp first (ghost shrimp) and they were like 6 for a dollar, and today we just got red cherry shrimp for $6 apiece. They are really entertaining to watch, generally have a very low bio load, and many mate readily as long as you have a tank where they won't get eaten or sucked up into the filter. They all come running when I feed them

Yeah, we don't have them at the pet store, just online, so I guess I'm only looking at the "fancy" ones. They sound fun!

The red cherry shrimp are 10 for $30 at elite inverts, just to expand your options . They live happily with any fish that won't eat them and are great bottom feeders!

I actually really like shrimp too. They're small but very active and come in an amazing variety of colours I have a friend who breeds them and I think he has about half a dozen types now. Cherry, Crystal Red (my fave, red & white striped!), Tiger, Bee(same as tiger?), Blue, White, and now, Orange! Just saw those last ones today. I also saw pictures of an amazing dark blue and red striped variety that was at a show in Singapore but they cost an absolute fortune. I have 3 Cherry shrimp in my little tank

Sorta off topic but I have a friend who breeds Molly's and I'm always seeing new colours, that's what that reminded me of, lol.

It would be totally fun to breed them . I may devote my 6 gallon cylinder aquarium to them after I move what's in there to my new 10 gallon, but those devil crabs are awfully tempting as well. Also I have wanted a feeder guppy tank for awhile now. I know they may not be as large or grand as the big ones, but I had a tank of them when I was younger and it was so fun to watch the babies grow up . Apparently the feeders are mostly ones that have bred at will and reverted to wild type. I didn't know that until recently.
