Best for beginner?

Which type of Hamster is considered best for beginners? I'm looking into showing as well

I would say Syrians; in my experience they aren't as jumpy. I raise Campbell's, they are great beginner pets too. Hybrids are also wonderful, but have health problems often. Can you give us a bit more info?

-What do you want in a hamster? Cuddly, fast, sweet, etc.

-Do you want one or two? If you want two I'd opt for robos. Campbell's,WW, and hybrids might live together as well.

-Do you care about colouring? Some species there are few colours, in other species there's tons!

Showing is not the best for a beginner really. Many big breeders go to shows and they dominate the prizes. Maybe Pet Class is the place to begin!

I would say Syrians as they are generally the easiest to tame and they tend to have the strongest bond with their owners! x

I would say a Syrian, they tend to be easier to tame than Chinese or Dwarf hamsters
If you are looking into showing I would suggest looking for a breeder (I assume you are from the UK as they are the only country to really do hamster shows). This depends whether you will want to be entering actual show classes or pet classes though as with pet class, it's mainly based off the health and temperament of the hamster, but in show a lot is based on colour and shape, even down to the correct markings, coat length, straight tail ect!

Yes I'm in the UK, in Dorset. I would be happy to start in the pet class and learn

Syrians are, in my opinion, the calmest for sure!

However, I'm not going to just say that. Not ALL dwarfies are those un-tameable, nasty little creatures most people around here think they are(here as in where I live, not HC!)! They can be the tamest, calmest, sweetest little ones. Personally, I raise Campbell's and they are my favourites. They can be calm with some work!

However, as a first time owner, look into Syrians. Where will you be getting your baby from?

Another plus for Syrians is that they tend to be slower and easier to catch if they escape. Even the most experienced hamster parents can be surprised by a hamsters Houdini-like escape tricks xD
