It sounds like a really good plan to me, I sort of hope this is over with before then though. I would also like to go against m00nbeam's suggestion and advise you don't visit them, as I mentioned earlier recently we rescued a lot of mice and the reason the entire situation hit us so hard was that we'd seen them. We'd gone to collect a trio and we weren't expecting amazing care but we definetly were not expecting what we found, the standards were appauling, we wound up in the vets with the trio because they were eating more food than our group of five adults... Turns out they were just not used to having enough to eat, the entire situation was nuts. And yes, these mice really, really got into our heads. Because we'd seen them, smelt the stench of their cage, watched our trio eat like they'd been starved... We couldn't forget about them and we worried on and off for the full two and a half weeks before we finally got the rest of the mice into our care (alongside the even more pups that'd joined them in the meantime...)

I do definetly know how you feel, but realistically with the mice we've been slightly in at the deep end ever since and we were prepared for what we've walked into. We've done the maths and concluded we can house 100+ mice if we really, really have to... Luckily we're not expecting all of the girls to be pregnant but we think we have pups and we have no clue how many yet - or if any other girls are pregnant too.

Can I ask why you think you'd be ready in May but not yet?
And can I just check, does your plan include if you wind up with all 30, plus what 60 odd pups? And they all need to live alone in the end? Sorry to ask but its important to be as prepared as you can and yeah, after the mouse chaos I'm far too aware of all the things you need to consider before you go for this. (And I said after the mouse chaos? - more like living in it lol)

A few things. For one, I'm going on spring break for a week soon, in Florida, and don't want to leave them with someone. Also, I have some other problems right now(Mio's sick, and other things I have to make time for). And one big goal that won't be done till May. After May, I really don't have much to do until July or so, plenty of time to get everything organised. And, I have friends in school who will get out in May and be able to help me more.

Overall, right now, I'm not in a great place to take them, time-wise. In May, I strongly believe I can, with help, handle it.

I have planned for the babies. If worse comes to worst, I know a family who owns a petstore, like I said, who might take some to show in their store. It's really close, I could check on them.

I can house up to 95 hamsters in my mousery. I have that many cages in storage, or cages that can be divided, or bins I can make into bin cages. The mice can move to my basement or somewhere, but I want the hams in the same place, so they will occupy the mousery. As for breeding mice and hamsters, I will go on hiatus if get these babies, my guys wouldn't mind being spoiled and living in my room for a while, haha!

Braingirl: as this lady can't spell "hamsters", I assume that she doesn't know about the multiplying:/

She's keeping them all together at 5 months old...it's not looking great.

That all makes sense It does look like you'll be sorted if any are still there in May, its just a shame you can't help sooner really.

Good luck with it all - including living with it and getting them out of your head until then

Nuts Are there any rescue organizations who might step in in the meantime?

The shelter here only cares about dogs. They take hams, but aren't great to them. They only sell Syrians in pairs. Ugh.

Exactly.

I hope I can help these babies.

Do I need to so anything differently care-wise than a normal ham? Like food amounts, cages and toys, etc.

Colby, as everyone has said, its best not to look at every single animal/hamster that is being mistreated. There are idiots in this world that couldnt take care of another living soul even if their life depended on it. Many people just cant understand that they cant keep putting themselves first, that other people/animals come before them with as much care and attention as possible. I may be new, but ive seen people keeping hamsters like useless junk. Its best to just stay away from any gumtree ads or any rescue ads until may and you can save those pregnant hamsters (and their litters) from harm. Its not your priority to help every animal in the world no matter how muh everyone wants to. Keep us informed on how the journey goes! good luck! I wish you the best!

I'm going to stand up for what is right. Not ignore the ads and pretend they don't exist. I just can't do that:/

Thank you though, I will update when there's news. In the meanwhile, advice, tips, and comments are still appreciated!
