Snow in the Southeast US!!
We are currently being snowed in right now. Its about 6 inches deep, which is pretty deep for the Southeast. To make matters worse, there is a layer of ice under the snow, which makes it treacherous going for venturing out.
My dad couldn't quite get his car up the driveway, which is all uphill, and parked about halfway up. Then, after he went in, his car slid back down the driveway and out into the street.
Shoveling the snow off the driveway to get his car all the way up proved just as hazardous as both my dad and younger brother were slipping and sliding and falling, and when they were done shoveling it, there was a fresh layer of snow where they had been.
So yeah, its a mess out there right now. I hope all you fellow members who live in the Southeast US are safe and warm right now.

Oh goodness, I hope they're both okay! And the car isn't too damaged either
We have yet to have more than a little snow that melts pretty quick, but I hope yours clears soon!

Re: Snow in the Southeast US!!
Snow and ice is very scary especially when you are not used to it. hope it all calms for you soon.
The weather has gone crazy this year. I am currently sitting terrified because of the noise of the howling gale we have here. I'm sure there will be lots of damage in the UK by the morning and not much sleep for us here.
Stay safe everyone x

Re: Snow in the Southeast US!!
We had a bit of snow today but just a dusting really. Recall a couple of years ago the ice below the snow and being stuck in for two weeks till it got cleared. Not pleasant. Stay safe

Re: Snow in the Southeast US!!
Holly, if you have any cat litter, tell your dad to throw it on the driveway for traction. It's really been crazy this year. It isn't an issue for me as I am retired and I ordered a grocery order online and it was delivered this morning. I know Yoda's going to be on wee-wee pads again tomorrow, maybe tonight...depending on when it starts here. It's been scarey, the weather is weird all over the world. Like Souffle says, stay safe folks.

Re: Snow in the Southeast US!!
It makes me smile when I hear stories of snow in the south ( my cousins live in Georgia) We have at at least 3 feet of snow on the ground and drifts as high as 5 feet. We are extremely used to snow and ice though so it's no big deal. It's the reason I own a fourwheel drive car with snow tires! Also, apparently Minnesota is going for a record breaking year with the number of days below 0*F this winter.

Re: Snow in the Southeast US!!
I used to be like that LoveMyHams! I grew up in a snow belt and used to laugh at the west coasters who ground to a halt at any hint of snow. Now I live here. I laughed at first but really, we get snow so seldom that we're just not prepared for it. The cities can't justify investing in decent snow equipment that they might use once every few years and only for a short time when they do. We got snow a few days ago. 1cm fell and it lasted a day. I have a pair of winter boots. I've worn them once and they've been sitting in my closet for years.
Gotta tell a story here. I worked in landscaping for years and for a while I was actually on call for snow removal. We aren't likely to get it but that year we did. I grew up with lake-effect snow and this was worse, what I would call ocean-effect snow! Anyway, the head of maintenance came running over to me on a gloriously sunny day after this snowfall and was waving his arms and basically freaking out about an "ice jam" that was blocking the road drain. Well, I rushed over there because where I grew up, ice jams sent house-sized blocks of ice shooting up the banks! What did I find? Snow in the gutter. I didn't dare laugh, but I still think that was a bit of an over-reaction, even by west coast standards

Re: Snow in the Southeast US!!
Well, we've received 6-8 inches of snow. It finally stopped snowing and the skies are clear and cold tonight. The skies cleared up about 3 in the afternoon and the sun began to melt a little of the snow. What snow and ice that did melt is freezing tonight and making for more treacherous road conditions in the morning. Mom and Dad both opted to stay home from work today, though Dad was doing work on his laptop via the internet.
