Snow!!!
Ok, I know I shouldn't be so excited, but I grew up in a snow belt and have lived for the last decade in a place that almost never sees the white stuff! I've just moved into a new place a little outside the "no snow" zone and this morning I woke to a light dusting and now big, fluffy flakes are floating out of the sky!

Re: Snow!!!
This has certainly been the year for it, and just about everywhere too. Yoda hasn't been to thrilled though

I know! Most of my relatives and friends are back east and I've been keeping up with the nasty weather you've all been having! Even Texas got hit with snow. You've had some scary cold snaps

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that Are you in an area that's prone to flooding or is this a new thing for you? One of the cities I grew up in back east was prone to flooding but people expected it to happen so it wasn't so much of a big deal, just a seasonal inconvenience. Hope everyone's alright!

Re: Snow!!!
It's not a big inconvenience for me being in the midlands, just my horses field is terrible, their practically swimming. Just wish it stop raining and freeze so they have some more hard ground. It's been worse for people on the coast.

Re: Snow!!!
I'm glad you're happy with the snow
I'm personally both slightly fed up of flood warnings (we don't normally need to worry about floods but mid-Wales is having more than enough lately) and hoping that at least living near the seaside keeps the snow at bay - it has to do something other than get the area stuffed with tourists every summer, right?

Oh your poor horses They must be a mess with all the mud and rain! Victoria, in spite of being on the west coast, is protected by the geology of the area and is in what's known among pilots as the blue hole. They don't get as much rain as places like Vancouver or Seattle, which are famous for it! Though there have been years even in the short time I lived there when we didn't see the sun all winter and it rained every single day Technically I'm still in Victoria but I'm well outside that blue hole and subject to all the whims of west coast weather, though maybe not the wind so much. I will miss the wind!

Luckily I'm not in an area known for floods, but there was an incident just a few weeks ago in the next town where their only access road got washed out because the heavy rains took out the beaver dam! It sounds funny (and we did all laugh) but we also know just how damaging a washout due to a beaver dam breaking can be. They hold back an enormous amount of water and can take whole houses with them!
We still get the tourists though

Re: Snow!!!
Our area isn't known for floods either lol, doesn't stop us getting flood alerts lately
That does sound both funny and really nasty at the same time, its a wierd combination really. I hope everyone was ok when that happened?
And looking at your location I bet you get the tourists too lol, I don't mind much... I both appreciate them and have pet hates that tend to usually just be things tourists do. It works really

Re: Snow!!!
Yes, everyone was ok, though apparently fire rescue had to be called out with a zodiac to rescue a couple of yahoos who tried to cross the flood in their truck and stalled

Re: Snow!!!
I haven't had any snow this winter...but this area doesn't flood, so just a load of rain and wind...which is bad because we have a lane next to the house and the fence there is pretty old and starting to fall down! It's actually being kept up with the help of what is now a pretty old Christmas tree and some big hammers/gardening equipment! There are supposed to be really bad winds tonight so I hope it stays, it would be really uncomfortable to have our garden at all open, especially with a dog here.
I can't believe some of the flooding going on in some places though! I don't know how I could really cope with that :/
