It's a pity you didn't keep the dead one and contact the company! It does sound like they came in the sand... hmm I can't possibly think what they could be though, maybe some kind of weevil? I hope you find out though, and I'd be really interested to hear good that you finally got rid of them too!

After looking at some quick pics of other people having similar problems, I found what was a boll weevil? They looked similar to that so I am guessing it must of been some kind of weevil! You must be right celmoy

Thanks for all of your help everyone!

I am fairly certain that they do not hurt the hamsters. When I read your original post I thought weevil too, because years ago I had them.

I know that it is safe even for humans to eat them, not that I have. LOL! But if a stray one remained in the food was eaten by your hamsters, it would have been fine.

I hate them too! So glad they're gone!

I am not one for eating little crawly things either!
I knew all along it would be simple...but better safe than sorry, and I will keep sticking to that saying!

That is one weird looking bug! Glad you found out what they are though, and that they aren't harmful

I only thought weevil because my mum is always moaning about them getting at her plants

Don't get me started!
I was just talking to my mother on the stairs and she asked what was behind me...I am not embarrassed to say that I screamed a bit and jumped away, only to see a spider on the wall...probably the same one as yesterday!

Hehe They're actually quite tiny, they only look scary in close-ups, don't worry!
