Hello Serena. I know exactly how you feel. I lost my beautiful Lady after 13 years. She was an abandoned 6 month old Labrador/German Shepard/Chow mix I rescued at my job. She went with me when I left my OH and was my wonderful protector and companion. At a bit over 13 years old she became ill and had to be put to sleep. The house was too quiet, I kept expecting to see her in her regular spots...at the foot of my bed in her bed; lying at the side of the couch while I watched TV, waiting to go out by the back door. I missed her so much. I had a heart attack a week after she died and was out of work for a month. about a week after I returned to work I couldn't do it anymore...I had to get a dog! Lady had made me feel safe and to not feel alone. I knew I couldn't handle a big dog like her because of my health so I thought...a little dog. So, on a Friday I left work early and went to a rescue in my area. I told them I didn't care what kind of dog it was, or how old, but it had to be less than 10 pounds. Out they came with Yoda, an 8 pound, 3 year old, floppy eared Chihuahua that someone had thrown out on the street. They told me he was shy but he jumped in my lap and solemnly stared at me. I took him home. Serena, it hurts terribly to lose any pet, but especially after so many years. They leave a huge hole in our hearts. Understand that your pain just shows how very much you loved her. It does get better and you remember the good memories...they never go away. I will always have a dog in my life. After some time goes by you may feel the same way. I am so sorry you are hurting and missing Kristy My Lady and Yoda are shown below.

Hi.. Did you know that I also lost my 15 year old mix just a couple of days ago. We are all devastated with her death and home seems incomplete without her lounging around or without hearing her distinct barking..

We didn't only lost a great dog and a pet but a mentor, a family member and a friend.

It takes time to get over it (That's for sure) but the only consolation we have with her death is that we gave her the best life that we could offer and she lived at the ripe, old age of 15 before The Rainbow Bridge calls her back.

It was hard but with lot of tears and acceptance, you can move on from it.
Your dog and mine might be gone but they will never be forgotten and those little paws will leave pawprints in the our sands of life that no one could erase.

Condolence to you and your family.. Our Furbabies will surely be running on the Rainbow Bridge by now.

I am so sorry, it is alway hard when a pets passes on. I had to put my dog Truffle down a year ago due to old age and that was really difficult... she was the perfect dog and a wonderful companion.

Hi Serena, I had to put my border collie down 10 months ago. It is a truly awful situation but with time you do remember the good times and think of them and smile. They leave the largest hole imaginable. Animals break you heart. Just take each day as it comes xx

I'm so sorry for your loss. I've outlived 3 dogs and a ferret now and it hurts just as much every time, but I promise it does get better with time. Eventually you can look back and smile at their memories. I'm sure Kristy had a wonderful life with you and loved you so much, and it's clear that you adored her. So much love to you and your family

Sorry for the late reply!
Thank you everyone for your kind words it means allot. I'm sorry DrKMcK, Wexland, Truffle, teddie05 for your loss too hope you are all okay <3
DrKMcK, I feel the same as you. It's really hard not having my Kristy with me and it doesn't feel right. The house is just too quiet without her and I don't have her greeting me and her wagging her tail when I walk through the front door. There will never be another dog like her as she was PERFECT but I can't Imagine my life without one. I bet it must so rewarding having a rescue dog and knowing that you gave them there forever loving home. Oh and by the way Lady and Yoda are adorable.

It truly does get better Serena. It just takes time. Rescuing Yoda was an amazing thing. He's my buddy.
