Default Re: Anyone else terrified of flying?

I won't lie...last time I had to fly, I cried...and that was only last year...awkward :/
I have always been terrified of flying, for no reason!...
I have family in California who I would love to see, but flying there...that's a different story, it's a shame because they only come to the UK every few years and have other family, last time I did not even see them.
Personally with flying, I try and nap a bit or take some magazines, last time I was playing games on my tablet (flight mode!) which made the time pass quicker. Going somewhere is harder for me, but by the time we are on the way back I am just wanting my own bed and home comforts so much that I just think of that and getting back into things!
Could be worse...last year we drove from Cardiff to Holland via the Euro tunnel, my step dad is dutch so he goes to see his mother, who can't fly for health issues. It would usually take us 9 hours, but we took 16 hours and with three people in the car, it was a bit hectic especially at changes between drivers...by the time we traveled through France/Germany/Belgium, it was a nice bit of sight-seeing, but we could of lost our hotel place and because we arrived late it was hard to get anything done that day.
I would rather fly 50ish minutes there than a 16 hour drive any day, that made me like flying a bit more!

That's a good idea hammy2 I have a friend who's an aeronautical engineer and he's always trying to reassure me that it's perfectly safe. I'm just irrational when I'm there!!

Sinyx - I'm half you know how I feel! I also cried...only last year...embarrassing haha especially as I was 24!! I was on a flight between Munich and Budapest and it was quite bad turbulence going over the alps. I was sobbing like an idiot when everyone else was just a bit 'ooooh it's quite bumpy'. I had actually been to the alps a few days before the flight and watched a plane fly overhead from one of the mountain tops and had told myself if we flew this way I was going to look out the window. Turned out I just cried the whole entire time I have been on trains before and wished id taken a flight. Took a horrible train between krakow and Berlin once - squashed up beside strangers who didn't like us very much because we couldn't speak polish so had no idea what was being said or going on, had no seats so were literally on the floor for 14 hours. I would have given anything to have taken the 1hr flight then! I'll just have to keep that feeling in mind I suppose
